    White Deer

There was a "piebald" buck deer in the little herd that visits my back yard. It was mottled red/brown and white like a Simmental cow. Haven't seen it this year. That coloration isn't very effective camouflage I guess...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

From US Fish & Wildlife Service : "...Rodents in particular love shed antlers - mice, squirrels and porcupines will gnaw on antlers for their nutrients and to wear down their ever growing teeth. Even bears, foxes, opossums and otters have been known to eat antlers...". No wonder you guys have...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Isn't it amazing, with all the antlered deer running around, that you so see so few sheds. I was always told squirrels and other varmints gnaw them away pretty quickly for the calcium & minerals, etc.

    I saved a plank

An un-checked un-warped fancy maple blank that clear and uniform with curl like that would easily bring a min of $300 around here. Heck, the sky's the limit. Need one like it for my next project:

Some Traditions locks come without this part. It adds support to the internals.

ETipp, Does the Crockett lock have the bridle supporting the tumbler? I have a Trad Kentucky and a Shenandoah; the Shen has the bridle and the KY does not.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I think what is acceptable to one guy vs another is subjective. My Kibler .54 with the swamped barrel shoots good enough, maybe, to kill a deer at 50 yds - 4"-6" dia if I really concentrate. Some people might call that "great". I don't. I dunno, I just require a level of accuracy that I don't...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I just can't bring myself to risk buying swamped again. I know, I know, people will reply their swamped barrel is the most accurate gun they've owned, it's your fault, etc. But I can't keep pouring $ into searching for a swamped gun with the accuracy I am happy with... I don't really want to...

Yep, understand; already have a .54 Woodsrunner. Just the thought instant gratification; picking one up and shooting that day, you know. Maybe a little kit fatigue on my part, that's all I've been doing lately. Also always thought the "Hatfield" style was sorta cool and unique. Admit I'm...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Back on the subject of squirrel rifles, LG Outdoors / Wholesale Hunter has a stock (site says 15) of .32 Pedersoli Frontier flintlocks on hand: FRONTIER Pedersoli does not list .32 as an option on the Italian web site; may have been a special run? These are Covid era guns, which I have heard...

Interesting read: LINK RE: my earlier post, #470. I witnessed it with my own eyes. Could my partner have shot them off? I don't see how. Still, biologists say we are delusional and it's just lore.

    Kibler side effect?

I struggle with this whole subject matter - i.e. you have no street cred and deserve denigration unless you get into what some hierarchical club decides is kosher. You know the guys with the gloves on, handling a gun carved up like a grandfather clock, surveying with moon eyes and slobbery mouth...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

A buddy and I were still hunting, and witnessed a titanic heavyweight fight between two big males about 10-15 yds right above us on a limb - they were oblivious. He whispered "I can get both with one shot" (16 gauge), I said no lets watch this play out. The loser suddenly squealed and let go and...
