    Maxi Ball Questions

I shot Ox Yoke Maxi Balls for the first time in my recently acquired .45 T/C Seneca. I've only ever used PRBs so I wasn't exactly sure of the correct technique. I just got the grooves as well packed with Wonder Lube as I could and seated them on top of the charge. I tried 60gr FFg and then...

New (to me) T/C Seneca, bore questions...

I just bought the rifle below. I don't have a bore scope, but I dropped something reflective down the barrel, after running a few dozen patches with Balistol through it. Impossible to photograph, but the bore was bright and clean looking all the way down, except for a few bright orange rust...

    FFFg equivalent to FFg

The .45 cal percussion rifle I'm working with produces good results with 60gr of FFg, but I'm wondering, is there a way to guesstimate how much FFFg would produce similar pressure? Seems like many shooters prefer FFFg in the .45.

    Why use a Hotshot nipple?

I'm planning to get a spare nipple from TOW. It looks like they only sell Hotshots in the correct size for the Thompson Center lock on my rifle. Are these better or worse than OEM? Shoudl I try and find an original T?C nipple?

    Best Practices For Hunting Season

It it advisable to keep the gun loaded during hunting season? If that's the recommended way to go, any tips to ensure a reliable ignition? I've been target shooting for years, but up to now have always used the unmentionable style for hunting.

Questions about the Thompson Center Hawken

Did all the .50 cal versions of these guns have 13/16s" barrels? Or were the newer models 1" ? Can anyone tell me the weight of these guns? Lastly what should I expect to pay for a mint condition example?

    Which Kibler Kit?

I've pretty much decided on a Woodsrunner in .50 cal, but without having handled or even seen any of Kibler rifles, it's more of a guess than a clear choice. My plans for the finished rifle include club matches and deer hunting in typically heavy cover. The main reason I chose the Woodsrunner...

TC Hawken .45 cal. load questions

New member here. Can I get some suggestions for round ball size, patch thickness and load for this rifle? Up until now I've only shot a .54 caliber and I don't know where to start with this this Thompson Center .45. I got it from a friend, he didn't know anything about it, but it looks to be...

First time with a .45 cal TC Hawken, advice wanted

New member here--I just acquired a used Thompson Center rifle at a price I couldn't pass up. I think it's a Hawken. My only BP experience is with .54 caliber. I would really appreciate some guidance as to what size round ball and patches I should use for this.45. Load advice would be great...

    New Member in Connecticut

Years ago I used to visit a friend up at his cabin in the Adirondacks to do some hunting and hanging out. He introduced me to shooting BP--there was a club at the Ticonderoga Fort and I attended their spring and fall shoots for years. Somehow, between career and child rearing I lost the habit...
