    Ferric Nitrate - Again

I've done a search and read some of the threads and have also searched on the Net, guitar and knife makers forums. Not sure I got the answer I am looking for. Made a maple grip for a Colt Navy replica, not fancy wood, no figure or Birds Eye just a plain piece I had laying around since forever...

Anyone here own exclusively muzzle loading firearms?

I would assume that we have some who fall into that category but very few I would guess. I enjoy and appreciate all types and categories of firearms. The only firearms that I don't like are cheaply made ones. They have their place I suppose, everyone regardless of their financial situation...

Picked up a nice vise on a local auction

A Simplex Gray 43S. From what I could find on the Net, I believe the vise was made between 1924 and 1931. Though not totally clear I think "gray" was dropped from the name when Desmond-Stephan took over the company. I then see reference to Desmond Simplex vises. I paid $97...I think I got a...

Midway order came in today - 1851 Navy replica

Pietta got it with the free shipping code so with PA tax it was less than $300. 7 1/2" bbl, steel frame, plastic grip. Thanks to Phil Coffiins excellent tutorial on making a grip for Colt replicas...it won't have a plastic grip for long. I think this will be my 3rd Colt grip. Not sure what...

Can anyone supply a list of states where a BP gun must go to an FFL holder?

I have searched the internet and have not found that. A list, preferably a .gov link, would be appreciated.

FOR SALE Sterling Silver & Ebony Dagger Pendant (Jewelry)

Maybe I should put this in "Edged Weapons"? Anyway not much of my metalwork could apply to our forum but I thought this piece might be allowed. If not, Mods please remove. Sterling silver and ebony Dagger pendant. Handmade by me. No cast parts all hand fabricated. Weight, 25.4 grams (mostly...

    Suggested loads with 777

Just added a pound of 777 to my Powder Valley order and wanted to know what loads I might use in .44 caliber handguns. Mainly for paper punching and plinking. Since it is supposed to pack more punch than Pyrodex and Black I assume you can use less of it. Only got 1 pound of fff. Maybe a waste of...

    Traditions 1858 Bison

Battle Hawk Armory has them, 12" barrel adjustable sights, brasser, walnut grip. $317.91, $19.99 shipping, no sales tax at least for PA buyers. I know Traditions are made by Pietta and I swore to never buy another Pietta since my last one but this is an interesting handgun at a good price...

Current quality of the Italian makers

A while ago I posted about my recent purchase of a Pietta handgun from Midway, $234 (Navy-ish, .44 cal.). I had a good bit of their mess to clean up. I got it all sorted out, made a grip out of red gum eucalyptus (original is plastic). polished the brass to a 400 grit finish. Haven't shot it yet...

Front sight on a Pietta Navy, is it just a press fit?

Mine looks to be a piece of brass rod tapered near the end, 0.110” diameter. I haven’t shot it yet but from reading it seems like they all shoot higher and could use a higher front sight. I don’t see any evidence of solder so I’m assuming that it is just press fit. TIA

    Project Farm (YouTube) rated CLPs

He rated them on resistance to wear, carbon removal and rust prevention. Our beloved Ballistol didn’t fare too well. I won’t steal his thunder but I’ll just say that for my unmentionables that I will be switching to Clenzoil on internal moving parts.

Interesting old axe coming up at local auction

Don't know anything about it but what the listing says "Early Iron Axe or Hatchet, Large with 13" Head". Interesting piece, don't know if is something that would be of interest to BP enthusiasts. Do you think it might be worth picking up? My auction mindset is "if I like it and can steal it I...

Grease packing revolver internals, why synthetic grease?

I’ve read with interest about packing the internals of a revolver to keep BP fouling out of the works. I want to try this but every thread that I have read specifies synthetic grease, usually Mobile 1 brand. Does it have to be a synthetic grease or will any type do. If it has to be synthetic…why?

Do I need a filler for a 20 grain charge in a .44 cal. Cylinder?

    The title says it all.

    Stabilo 8052

Basically a quality wood pencil with white "lead". Came across one by accident found it very useful marking on dark woods. A little soft but very useful. I ordered a dozen of them on Amazon. Guess that means I like them! Made in Czech Republic (for those who avoid products from China). FYI

    My first Pietta…issues

I have only fairly recently gotten seriously into BP and when I jump into just about anything I do so with both feet. I started out with an 1858 Remington Sheriff, then a 3rd model Dragoon (both Uberti) and lastly 2 ROA, one stainless, one blued. So I ordered the cheapest Pietta from Midway. An...
