Pedersoli Kentucky - finally got it.

Get a good range rod of some sort. It's not a question of whether a Pedersoli rod will break, it is a question of when, in my opinion. I now know when mine will break--today. I wasn't pushing down or abusing it. I was using it as a cleaning rod and bumped it up against the low ceiling at the...

BP gets bump due to modern ammo$$?

I can confirm this just by going to Cabelas or Bass Pro. No traditional MLs on the racks, period. The Bass Pro near me still has one Traditions Ky Rifle Kit on the shelf, but I'll bet it is not replaced when it sells. The stores do carry several varieties of the modern versions.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

Around here meaning N. Texas. I do have access to some pine logs and and big pine blocks leftover from our cabin build in Cuchara. But I won't get back there until Memorial Day weekend. Oak is also what we are using at the club competitions here.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

Oak is what I have, so Oak it is. Plenty of that around here. Not many big pines. There are big cottonwoods in the river bottoms, but not available to me.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

Made my 1st trip yo the Crazy Crow "store" which is only about 40 miles north from my office. I looked at their throwing knife and bought it. I can easily make this but I need instant gratification, so I bought it. I have some oak log sections from a tree that died a couple of years ago...

Making Stainlees Steel Look Like Tin

Get Naval Jelly from home depot type store in Paint section. Apply NJ in coats brushed on and let dry. After several coats the SS will have a dull light grey color.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

Thanks for the photos. Do you harden your blades or leave soft. I think leave soft to bend and not break.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

I like the look of the H&B knfe. I like the sound of the guarantee that it will not break or bend. It's not that much more cost than a Crazy Crow and online stores. I guess I also need a guarantee that it will not get lost in the woods and that it can be made to stick. :rotf:

    Is this "hawk" ok?

That paint is very hard to get off. I tried some regular paint stripper and I tried some heat from a propane torch. Then I dipped in an old can of Berryman parts cleaner that has been in my barn for ten years. It took the paint right off, as I knew it would, but the stuff stinks horribly. I...

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

I am thinking about that also, but I am really pressed for free time this spring. Can you post a picture of yours?

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

That is why buying on the internet is always risky. I am leaning toward the Crazy Crow throwing knife advertized as made in the USA.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

I am a novice thrower and do not need a custom knife. Wasn't sure about the quality of the Crazy Crow stuff. Thanks.

    Throwing Knife for Rendezvous

I am needing to get a throwing knife for Rendezvous. I might make one, but if I need to get one from a commercial source, does anyone have any recommendations or guidance. Several online choices: Dixie Springfield Leather H&B Forge TOW (but out of stock) Any thoughts on any of the above...

    Range report on Raffle Pistol

I think that there is not much, if anything, I can do to improve the Pistol or the load. Let's see, what (who) does that leave to improve? :haha: :haha:

Getting the stock fit you want

That is a very good recommendation, but down here, we do not have anyplace to go and check fit. Even Cabelas has stopped carrying any traditional muzzleloaders. So we are relegated to the online sources, for better or worse. For my next one, I will follow the recommendations on measurements...

    Range report on Raffle Pistol

I have some .440 balls, but even with thin patches, I would need a short starter. I prefer to thumb start. Same with my .45 Ped. Kentucky rifle.

    Range report on Raffle Pistol

You might recall that I won the raffle prize at my first Rendezvous. A slightly customized .45 Pedersoli. from a kit. Took it to the range yesterday to sight in. 20 yds, offhand, 25 gr. Goex FFFg, .433 hand cast RB with pillow ticking. First three shots out of the barrel: So I think it...

    Carrying a percussion pistol

    Whata ya mean hers? :rotf:

    Carrying a percussion pistol

My hand crafted leather holster fits both my pistols such that the leather can fit down between the hammer and the cap on half cock. I carry one when stalking in a known hog area "a just in case." I will take the advise of Cynthia and start carrying some clear nail polish to stick that cap on.
