Going to work up a hunting load for my 50 caliber Kentucky pistol.

Sparky, I have a Traditions 50 cal pistol. I love it! But I find that if I burn more than 30 grains my groups start to spread. I put it up to the twist. 1 on 24 is too tight with a patch and ball and a lot of powder. A conical may be the way to go

    For you rock bangers....

Dale… I did a bit of math, 300 hours to build at $50 an hour $15,000 plus materials 😕

Crocodile belt, flint wallet and ball bag.

True that, Native Americans held slaves, but made crappy slaves themselves for white folks. A black slave may run off, but a red slave may run off with your scalp on his belt!

Crocodile belt, flint wallet and ball bag.

I could use Seminole craft work, there is a Hard Rock casino here in Tampa (Seminole Nation) with a gift shop, but the Seminole as a tribe/nation did not exist in1760.

Crocodile belt, flint wallet and ball bag.

I found it in a google search it is a Viet Nam fresh water croc tail to shoulder maybe 50”-60” A little pricey

Crocodile belt, flint wallet and ball bag.

Thanks guys for the kind words. There is a miccosukee trading post on Alligator alley, the longest stretch of dead flat and arrow straight road I have ever driven. At night, you can see headlights miles ahead, and watch them coming for 20 minutes. Spooky! I hope to add to my kit with this...

Crocodile belt, flint wallet and ball bag.

I got my hands on a smallish 4/5 foot Viet Nam fresh water Crocodile hide. I used the bulk of the hide on a hunters belt. The belt started out a 3” wide cow hide belt. I cut it down to 2.5” wide. I then glued the outside face of the belt with 3.5” wide Crocodile, using the extra width to wrap...

    DOES IT EVER GET CLEAN?

After cleaning my ML’s and storing them for weeks I would get orange streaks, pretty sure it is rust. Started using one T17 firearm wipe as a cleaning patch after last cloth cleaning patch. No more rusty patches!

    50cal versus 50cal

That photo was a little foreshortened, this one is a bit starker. If I have violated the rules, please delete, no sweat

    50cal versus 50cal

When I go to the range, people will ask me about my flint lock. When I tell them it is a 50 caliber rifle, their eyes pop! All those black gun shooters imagine a 50 cal cartridge. I show them a 49 cal ball, and they settle down. I thought I might show the vast difference between the two. I...

    Muzzleloading Myths

Freedom475, I tend to agree with you. As I understand it BP is a low grade explosive. The flame front moves slower than the speed of sound, but not by much! At 650 fps The flame front will travel 7,800 inches in one second. Can’t seem to get the math for 10” of powder, or 20” but it’s gotta be...

    Flintlock (Kibler) sights

I have have had a partial corona transplant and still have cataracts, doubt I could renew my DL, and I can count leaves in a tree 100 yards away :) your mileage may vary

    My first flintlock is completed

    Sweeeet! Show stopper for sure

    Flintlock (Kibler) sights

You will like them, takes a second to find the sweet spot, then you’ll feel like you’re 30 or 40 not an old fart like me :)

    Flintlock (Kibler) sights

I put mine on the inside, with the writing on it inside too. They don’t show too, too much

    Flintlock (Kibler) sights

I have had good luck with a peep attached to my shooting glasses. I can get an excellent site picture and deep field of focus maybe 2 degrees wide. It has made plunking much more enjoyable

    Help me choose a kit?

I don’t think you can go wrong with either rifle. I am a big fan of love at first sight, and if a gun talks to you, pick that one.

    Muzzleloading Myths

The shrapnel coming off that exploded barrel looked like an old school hand gernade, the old pineapple type.

    Muzzleloading Myths

As I understand it, a ball part way down the barrel acts like an obstruction. I suppose the closer to the charge, lessens the effect. But I have always been told pack the ball snugly.
