CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

I've read every bit of this string and would add one thing: look up the Distributers for the region you're in. These are the first stop all firearm products would be sent to in the chain of delivery. Likely they could give you an answer closer to the truth of expected or impending delivery. I...

    Lead balls have casting imperfections

Excellent response. After helping my dad, then running the business for 30 years, winning competitions all along the way, a 'minimal' sprue which has been cut off as low as possible with the mold, gets pounded right back into the ball. I agree with the ball flight being effected if it's not...

    .54 charge workup

Coning any rifled barrel is specifically for the ease of loading, and not necessarily for any improvement or change to accuracy. If coned too deeply; meaning, you sanded down past the rifling and into the lands (as can happen at the muzzle with shallow rifling), you could alter the bullets...

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

I haven't used mink oil, so I don't know it's properties. It may work just fine. I always have a source for the bear fat so I always melt a bit down into oil and add beeswax for my patching. And, use the oil on the inside of my lock. Since I learned about it back in 2005, I have used it in every...

How to use the bear grease…?

I forgot!!! ...I fill a tin for my hunting pouch, but initially I cut my ticking into strips and drag the patching under my thumb across the tin. I don't cut it individually. Only cut it at the muzzle while loading, or in a ball block for hunting.

How to use the bear grease…?

Once your bear fat returns to the grease, melt some bees wax. I add the melted wax to the bear grease. The hot wax needs to be added to the grease and will blend easier that way. I use 1/3 wax to 2/3 grease first and let it cool. Once it cools, check it for how it spreads on the ticking. I have...

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

I use real pillow ticking bought years ago at a local sewing shop. At that time I was shooting a lot so bought a couple yards of it. My rifle has a swamped barrel of custom design w/ deep round groove rifling. I designed it based on European originals. The most important concept I have learned...

    Original or Replica ?

New or reconditioned stock. No doubt in my mind. Good job of blending finish- note the very dark areas around the mountings. I would have to handle it, but I am mostly sure the parts are original. The frozen looks like a replacement. Can't guarantee from the pictures if it's a complete...

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

Bacon has salt in it. Would rust up your barrel, and every crack and crevice, meaning threads, in record time. You have to be careful in selecting any product that's used in a firearm. It's good you're asking before you try!

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

Once I started using the bear fat and bees wax, learned all the benefits, I never returned to anything else. An old friend (gone now) had told me about it, but I think I was afraid of it's mess. When you shoot with it, the barrel gets hot and melts the wax and lines in with the oil. It cleans...

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

This is a little dangerous. Bear grease is what the forefathers used. However, there's another step. If you take the time to do this right, you'll make enough to last a couple years even if you shoot every weekend. I said dangerous, only because legally, bear grease cannot be sold. But the...

    Homegrown Relief Carving

I'm still here guys! Just stumbled across your site here. Am working on some new stuff for another future book release. Its important, hopefully be my legacy. It's on the Golden Mean; exactly how they did it, and why. Reckon our modern masters still don't want that taught or shared. These books...
