    Horn staining

I wanted a more antique look for this horn project. Used "aqua fortis" along with leather stain and heat gun. Used a super thin sealer to protect colors. There may be better ways of doing this sort of thing.

    Ram rod and nipple hole

The pistol ram rod stops at the blue tape. But the nipple hole is some distance away. There must be a path much smaller, but I can't tell by feeling with a wire. Just asking. I have not shot it yet.

    SOLD Horn for sale

    Horn

This horn was on the large side. I cut it down to a more manageable size 13 ½ in. Its base was almost round, so the base plug was easy to fit. The base is black walnut, has an ebony knob hanger and ebony spout stopper. The colors are sealed with a very thin sealer. I think it could hang on the...

    Powder horn repair

This horn came to me used. It needed to have the spout repaired due to the hole being drilled to big and missing a stopper. I counter bored it and fitted a section of much stouter buffalo horn. Made a stopper from ebony and made a new base out of hard wood. I tried my hand at engraving a few...

    CVA pistol advice

I have an old CVA pistol barrel that needs some TLC. The screw that was in the powder drum was mangled and looked bad. I was going to look for a screw but not sure where to look or what to ask for. The thing I call the “powder drum” that holds the nipple, looks fair. But I was wondering about...

    Would this be a safety?

Any thoughts on this used for?
  9. Old Painless

Anyone know what this gun is?

The owner does not know anything about. I have not gone to look at yet.
  10. Old Painless

You guys may know what this is.

I admit I don’t that much about black powder guns. Every thing I shoot is made in Italy for now. I met a guy at my club that showed me a head scratcher. He talked to me like I was well versed in the subject. I just went along and said nice, came away thinking there is a lot to know about black...

    Flame thrower

A few pictures I took several years ago at the Davis Arms & Historical Museum in Oklahoma. I don't know how well it would shoot. Short barrels and I don't get along.
  12. Old Painless

    Lock size

This lock looks a little large for this pistol. Spain made.

    Translucent horn

Hackberry stopper and black walnut base. I have not put powder in it. But I THINK you could tell the amount of powder in it.

    Hunt for Arrowheads

I'm getting too out of shape and lazy to do it much any more. Finding one, even broken brings enjoyment. But getting outside in the creek is nice. I still don't know much about them.

    Powder horn

Had some time to work on this. I had to use hot oil to form the base. Ebony stopper.
  17. Old Painless

    Dark horn

A very dark horn with some dye to make it easy to find in the dark.

    Gibbs style black powder rifle

This Gibbs style rifle made by CVA has a octagon to round barrel. The muzzle looks like it has a more coned breach, if thats the proper word for it on a BP gun. Is this how it was from the maker or done afterword? Or do coned jobs look to have more metal removed than this? I think some of you do...
  19. Old Painless

    A day horn

Don't know if it makes it a day horn or not. It's mid size I think. It's easy to fit along the side, not banging around is all.

What can you tell me about this gun?

A .54 I gave $300 for some time back. Thanks, OP
