Tomorrow is MZ opener in WA…

And I am guilty of not being prepared. I worked all summer for this moment and I’ve been so fixated on fishing river salmon that I didn’t realize i was on the brink of the single moment Ive most considered for the last year or more. When you open the gun safe and have only nine days to hunt...

    What would cause this

You are describing leading. Lead is sloughing off on the barrel as the shot column travels. It comes off easily enough with a bore brush and there are several compounds and chemicals to assist. A paper cup might or might not help. A greased patch or wad may make it easier to remove but, in my...

    Took the wife out today

It’s twice as much fun when you can share something you love with someone you love. Lucky man. :)

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Well… that makes me old too. What you need is some “game.” Ask one of them to pose with it for your friends because they wouldn’t believe a gal was interested otherwise. Or just tell them you want to remember a good day. It’s always easy. In my experience, They appreciate attention as long as...

    wooden cannon again

Didn’t Dutch make bamboo cannons in Predator? I might be mixing up my movies but that seems like a reality. I think salvaged powder would’ve been 4f equivalent too. :)

    Novaculite really IS that good...

IanH was nice enough to send me some novaculite flints and I tested one today. Excellent spark but what was really impressive was one that bounced around in the pan like an ember longer than any I’ve seen.

wisdom vs. experience... or, today I learned...

I just walked away from fifteen years with a smokin hot redheaded divorce lawyer. I am not sure I gained any wisdom from the experience because I’d jump right back into that frying pan again. I just couldn’t handle all the constant arguments. I can assure you that all of the generalizations...

Thank you Nit Wit! Got my first trade gun!

That one is a looker! I am envious and I bet you are excited to shoot it!

    Cornmeal Grouse

Holy Smokes! Fifteen is hard to imagine! Our limit is four but has to be one of a second species. So realistically it is three. Washington State is ridiculous. They also delayed the season two weeks so the juvenile birds have two more weeks to mature and not get shot. I am doubtful two more...

    Cornmeal Grouse

That won’t be legal here until Sept 15th. I have to double check the regs. We come across Blues occasionally, but they are usually at higher elevations than where I am typically. Ruffs and mushrooms are the main in early September. Kings and later silvers will be in the river, bear, deer and...

    Cornmeal Grouse

Terrible reception tonight. I’ve been trying to load pictures for an hour. I think it keeps timing out.

    Cornmeal Grouse

My son and I tested some cornmeal recipes today. Hopefully, my depiction of Grouse isn’t too subjective. First shot was my normal load: 65 grains 3f, shot card, 1 1/8 oz #6 with another shot card at 20 yards. Second was the same powder load, 65gr of cornmeal, 1 1/8 oz # 6 and a card. Third...

    What's up with Flints?...

Go on YouTube and look at “Muzzleloading TV.” Bob has lots of great videos and the same topic search will also help you find what you need. Basically, any small horizontal edge that chips away at the leading edge will help you. I’ve used the obligatory “hammer,” a screwdriver, pocket knife and...

    What's up with Flints?...

I know nothing, but I’d love that to be true and repeatable.
