Is Kibler a Sponsor of this site?

I now have 2 SMR's and a Colonial but owning these gas spurred me to purchase lots of other products like cleaning products, acoutrements, powder horns, period clothing, pouches, and even other mass produced muzzleloaders (traditions Crockett). I have even been to the last 4 NMLRA nationals...

Can you find the right flint or chard in NC

Our native "flint" is actually quartz/quartzite - as evidenced by most arrowheads we find in western NC. However, just over the mountain in Tennessee there are chert nodules in some of the limestone found there (our bed rock tends to be granite). The chert from TN would probably chip some nice...

    Kibler SMR build tips

Ethan Yazel "I Love Muzzleloading" has a video about taking a file to the forend and smoothing it up. Only takes about 15 minutes and really slicks that end of the stock up. I was really scared of the delicate feel of the stock on my first one but they are fairly tough. The other tip I have...

    I Finally Gave In

I have a .45 SMR and a .36 SMR. I love them both but I like the slightly heavier feel of the .36. Both are great shooters. I am working up a load and am coming to conclusion very similar to @david w Kiblers are worth saving up for!

    Kibler SMR

I have 2 SMR's and both are fancy maple, which I think is beautiful. I do think, however, that the original "Whitson" rifle that the SMR's are patterned after is stocked in walnut. Seems like a lot of Bean rifles were walnut too. Might be worth some research.

Williams Tang Peep Sight for TC Hawkens & Renegades

Thanks for the follow-up! I knew the screw provided wasn't a 6-48. I haven't had a chance to shoot mine much (2 kiblers and a crockett rifle are taking my time right now) but I do love a peep sight and look forward to getting mine dialed in. Thanks again.

Flint and Steel Kits for Teaching Youth

Using the file and vice method I usually can get 3 strikers out of 1 file. For charcloth you can cook some cheap cotton washcloths in a 1 quart paint can with a pin hole in it on your grill. I usually remove the grate and balance the can down on the flame guards. Home made stuff works way better...

    Dutch Schultz Book?

I purchased the paper copy from Dutch's daughter on ebay. Worth every penny. It seems to be a compilation of all of his materials. Of course I am always gonna tinker with different lubes and such but I have used his system with amazing results. And I gained a lot of confidence in just knowing...

Question on making the holes in the barrel tenon's oblong?

I didn't dig mine out like Jim Kibler does on the Woodsrunner video - just give the hole some clearance. I am not concerned about moisture in the wood, but after you fire the gun several times the barrel will heat up and elongate and if you are binding the pins your point of impact will move...

Question on making the holes in the barrel tenon's oblong?

I found a really small jeweler's saw that the blade could fit through. But honestly it cut so slow that I found a diamond-covered drill bit for my dremel tool that fit the hole and used it like a micro-router to dig the holes out.

Williams Tang Peep Sight for TC Hawkens & Renegades

FYI I put one on my Renegade and it works great. Seems like the screw that comes with it is not the thread mentioned in the instructions. If I recall right, I drilled the hole and tapped it and then discovered it was wrong. So check your threads before you start......

    Kibler Southern Mountain rifle ordered

My .36 kit arrived today. Just had time to peek and the stock looks great. I can tell that I am going to be distracted tonight at church......

    Kibler Southern Mountain rifle ordered

My .36 Kibler in maple shipped today. I already have a .45 and I use .445 Lee balls in it. I cast some .350's this weekend. Like you, I like to be ready - in fact I got all my jags, etc. from Track of the Wolf last week. Only thing bothers me is that with .350 balls I might have to use...

    NMLRA members

My family have been members since 1938, saving up for my life membership and one for my daughter currently. @ILoveMuzzleloading, you and BP Maniac are the reasons I joined. In fact I saw both of you guys at different times on Saturday but I didn't want to bother either one of you.

    NMLRA members

2 years a member. My work takes me near Friendship about once a month so it is nice to go over and buy powder. I have been to the last 4 Nationals. I have never shot there, just spend a lot of money with the vendors. Looks like the Primitive side is about dead and that is sad because it is where...

    New Kibler barrel accuracy

@Lukedrywalker I have a Kibler 45 SMR and a 54 Colonial. I haven't done any load development with the 54, but with the 45 (Rice barrel, and it will say on the bottom if it is Rice or GM) I am getting great results at 50 yards with a .535 lee molded ball sorted, blue Walmart pillow ticking, 1:7...

    Crockett rifle loads

@scottbeverly2024 I purchased one last week and sure enough my wife likes it. It doesn't kick at all. I set up some reactive targets and she hit them all. She was intimidated by the length and recoil of my Kibler SMR in .45 but not the Crockett. I just wish the Crockett was available in...

Midway has Crockett .32 on sale

Phooey I just ordered one today from muzzle-loaders. Paid $499.99 so I guess I left $15 on the table. Like most guns, it's the accessories that add up ( went to ebay, bought a .311 mold, short starter, cleaning jag, ball puller, fouling scraper, special nipple wrench, etc.) so all in I am...

Reducing flint destruction on traditions flint locks

I am chalking it up to me at this point. My flintlock experience goes back a whopping year! I have gained a lot of confidence with the bigger flints. My longest life is 72 shots. In my Colonial 50 or 60 shots is normal. Maybe I will go back and try the smaller flints soon as I was only getting...

Reducing flint destruction on traditions flint locks

Funny that Kibler should get mentioned. My Kibler SMR smashes flints like crazy. I put the larger 7/8 flint from the Colonial in it (slightly offset to one side) and I get 50 or so shots per flint. I feel like the smaller flint sits too far away from the frizzen and the velocity is too high by...
