    Pronunciation of "gonne"

Same. Regardless of historical correct pronunciation, it provides valuable clarity to not confuse the conversation with “handguns”

    The "backward" powder horn

To add context, it’s prolific in art of gunners from the 1470s-1530s, so an important historical evolution.

    The "backward" powder horn

Old guard makes one that they have on Facebook: I have one made by a guy in Arizona that uses an off the shelf powder flask spout: Brian Anderson made one recently and posted in my thread on my two arquebuses

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

I am extremely fortunate that the club is less than 15 minutes from my house, so going forward, I think I’ll plan on going during my lunch breaks when I’m working from home.

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

Luckily, the leadership of my club seems very knowledgeable and mature, so that helps a lot. I had read so many horror stories of entitled Fudds, which was what made me worried.

    Pronunciation of "gonne"

isn’t the non silent E at the end of words in English almost all loan words from French or other Romance languages? It would depend on what language “gonne” comes from. Wikipedia states that “gun” in English and “gonne” in Latin are around the same period, so that’s confusing.

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

To add some information on the safety precautions I took, (at the open range with no one else on it) I had the powder and everything for loading on a moveable bench behind me and then my match resting in a metal can and a foot away, the little pressure dispensed priming flask, on a desk about a...

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

The horn is good advice, thank you. Someone passed me charging from the original container into a powder measure and it did not look like they felt great about it.

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

Yes, I figured as much. Most of the orientation was “Don’t be and idiot and CLEAN UP” They can’t resell burnt patches like brass!

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

Thank you for the response! Luckily, my club has a couple ranges, with one that’s a small field with a berm and more free form for the activities. My plan going forward is to use that, and be down wind from the other shooters. The main range, with a cover and shooting benches at each bay...

    Black powder on smokeless ranges

I recently took a matchlock of mine to my local gun club I just joined for some test shots. It is explicitly allowed but I felt a little self conscious due to the smoke and using a lit match and gunpowder. Are there courtesies you guys take while shooting muzzleloaders on primarily smokeless...

A cast bronze hackenbusche would be such a cool project and end result. Now to find someone that can cast larger objects….

2nd time at the range with Drachenfeuer

I bought their other handgonne a year ago and the price was the same. They said it was in stock, but still took about a month to ship out.

    TKO

Another reason to appreciate Jan Zizka’s genius! Add on that a handgunner is much cheaper to train and equip than any armored cavalry, the strategic utility of the gun really starts to make sense.

2nd time at the range with Drachenfeuer

That sub brand of “American Hasta” is supposed to produce a matchlock at some point soon, so it’s good if people buy their current product and let them know there is interest.

    Landsknecht Arquebus and Petronel

I took the landsknecht arquebus out for some test shots yesterday and it’s an absolute joy to shoot. When you aren’t used to any other system, the button trigger actually works really well. Your hand is naturally in position on it and it is light enough that pressing it doesn’t move the gun at...

    Landsknecht Arquebus and Petronel

That’s the plan! My only previous shooting experience is skeet and a matchlock once, so it will be a good test to see how hard it actually is to learn matchlock shooting. According to the book on colonial Fowlers, the club butt matchlock is where the club butt Fowler evolved from.
