    Cataract Surgury and Shooting

Had it done, both eyes, fall of 2015. I wore glasses from 1960 'til then... I need readers for up close now. I had never shot without corrective lenses before. Now, long gun and handgun targeting is a breeze. I was amazed at how much brighter everything is when there are no lenses sucking...

Is a spiral striped ramrod correct?

I was told back in the '60s that the spiral stripe on a ramrod was from cooking "stick bread" on the ramrod. A dough snake wrapped around the ramrod and cooked over the fire... not sure about the truth, but did make a lot of stick bread back then at Boy Scout camp

I enjoy shooting my Veteran Arms Long Land... Fires very reliably. I clean the frizzen with rubbing alcohol and micro fiber rag. I prick the vent every shot and brush/wipe the pan when I clean the frizzen. My load is 80gr 2f BP, .692 round ball patched with a cotton 1 1/2 in round cleaning...

    Dragoon problems

A broken stop and trigger spring will cause same problem but will be constant, not erratic . There may also be a worn "spring arm" (for want of a better term) on the bolt itself. Only a complete teardown will illiminate these as a cause of the problem.

    Dragoon problems

Sorry you don't have the Dragoon any longer. My 3rd model occasionally will have same malfunction after several cylinders fired. Spent caps will fall between the hammer and recoil shield jamming the locking bolt. The fix is tear it down, clean the innards, reassemble, continue session. I...

    pan powder?

I have been shooting BP since mid '70's. Front stuffers, revolvers, cap & ball, and flint... I really enjoy flint. I generally use 2f as main charge in large caliber muskets, 1795 Springfield or Long Land Bess, 3f in KY Rifle and try to prime with 3f in the pan as 4f is not easily found here...
