    Accuracy of an 1861 Springfield

So I had some local kids at the club shooting today on the rifle range and I brought out my 1861 Springfield to show them why the Civil War was so deadly. Both of these targets are shot from the sitting, supported position. I shot a .57 round ball with a lubed patch, 65 grains of 2fg powder at...

    Made myself a revolver stand!

There is a notch in the upper block of wood. The front sight goes into the notch and holds the muzzle up.

    Made myself a revolver stand!

So I had some extra and left over wood sitting around, I decided to make myself a loading stand for the range. I have a reproduction Remington New Model Army, so I made the stand just for it. No plans, just winged it. Any thoughts?

    Cabelas in Hoffman Estates, IL

The Cabelas in Hoffman Estates, IL just loaded up on B/P supplies. It has Remington #11 Caps, some off brand #10 caps, lots of pyrodex, 209, and 777 in stock. Still no real B/P, but just about everything else. They also have hornady swagged round balls now in .32 to .54 caliber. I picked up...

    Rare Revolutionary War Flintlock Rifle

Nope, just these 2 pictures were all I got. The owner was eager to talk about it, but very hesitant to allow anyone to get too close or touch it.

    Rare Revolutionary War Flintlock Rifle

I saw this rare flintlock rifle at a local Civil War Show this past weekend. The gun is going up for auction soon. The auction housemaid only a few of these are known to exist. They believe it was either a Colonial Soldier battlefield pick up or a British soldier deserter as the crown markings...

Range Report Veterans Arms 1740 Long Land Brown Bess

Yes, I do agree. I am gong to go with the paper cartridges and start rolling them and stick with the 69 caliber round ball. I do have a range rod for my 1861 Springfield. I'm going to get a smaller jag then the one I was using. When I got home and cleaned my Brown Bess, the range rod with the...

Range Report Veterans Arms 1740 Long Land Brown Bess

Thanks, I am going to get a smaller jag and start swabbing with a thicker patch. I did adjust the flint in the holder and I knapped it to sharp edge now, I hope that will work at the next range day.

Range Report Veterans Arms 1740 Long Land Brown Bess

Thanks, I wouldn't begin to know or even try to tune a lock. I will start wiping the flint and prick the vent before every shot.

Range Report Veterans Arms 1740 Long Land Brown Bess

I'm open to any lubricant suggestions. I am using a moose milk ballistol/water solution now, works well in my 1861 Springfield. Scott

Range Report Veterans Arms 1740 Long Land Brown Bess

Hi all, I took my new flintlock from Veterans Arms to the range today. I put 10 rounds through the smoothbore and I learned a lot, including the fact I have to learn much more about flintlocks. I had targets out about 50 yards, standard NMLRA targets. I put 4 shots on the paper of the 10, none...

    British Table Musket

This past weekend I attended a Revolutionary War re-enactment and they had a "British Table Musket" is what they called it. I've never heard of this type of firearm ever. It's a 100 caliber flintlock smoothbore. It is so heavy the soldiers carried it on a table with a hole in it. When they...

    My New 1740 Brown Bess

The fit is great. Most of the finish is nice, there are 2 spots on the wood next to the breech where you can tell the stain was applied a little unevenly. But it's miniscule and 99% of the finish is beautiful. I think they did a great job on it.

    My New 1740 Brown Bess

I believe it is a hardened teak, stained to look like walnut. I can tell when I hold it that it is not Walnut. I also have an 1861 Springfield made from real walnut, you an tell the difference. But that is OK with me. I finally found a flintlock I could actually afford and get made.

    Veterans Arms LLC

Hi all, Does anyone have any insight into Veterans Arms? They seem to have stopped communicating with me and I am getting worried. They communicated well when I had questions, so I ordered the 1740 Long Land Brown Bess 3 weeks ago. They sent me an email 2 weeks ago with a proposed shipping...
