    Original Henry Deringer

By trying different ball sized from some of my other guns. And this on has no caliber size stamped on it. Only Jukar and Spain.

    Original Henry Deringer

This thread got me to thinking about a "Derringer" I bought many years ago at a pawn shop. It has a lock marked "Derringer" and "Philadelphia" with some engraving, but is otherwise very plain. The barrel is very thick and marked "Jukar" and "Spain". I am thinking CVA or pre-CVA? They sold it...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

Although, in one scene th guy with the matchlock manages to light his slow match with a couple of strikes of the flint. You have to be good to do that!

Regrets with L and R lock for Traditions?

Many years ago I put an L&R replacement lock on my Traditions Pennsylvania Rifle. The lock is good, but the rifle is a POS. So I gained nothing.

    The Absolute Best Tomahawks

As far as historically correct goes, some years ago a friend of mine, who was a collector, managed to obtain a tomahawk head excavated at Braddock's battlefield on the Monongahela. He sent it to Jeff Miller and had three copies made, one for himself and one of each of his sons. I called Jeff...

    Jackie Brown "Carolina Smoothbore"

As stated earlier, there were guns sold in the white, or as kits, by Jackie. The purchasers may not have done a good job of building the gun, but still advertise it as a "Jackie Brown Gun". So beware when buying one advertised as his. I have one of his I bought over 20 years ago and still...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

Some years ago I was looking at an exhibit at Kings Mt. NPS. I asked a Park Ranger (whom I knew) If they seriously thought anyone actually dressed like that at the battle, and he said he didn't like it and knew it was wrong, but the NPS hired some company from Florida to make the exhibit and...

Anyone aver biught from this canadian (Ontario) company?

There is a guy, who for may years, has been scamming the reenacting community. He takes an existing business and changes a few things with their web site and name, then posts the items as his own. Of course then don't exist. And everything is close enough to the real site where it can easily...

    WANTED Calvary Saber

Many years ago, I bought an original 1811 pattern "Blücher" saber in an antique shop. Over the years I have looked for a reproduction, but I have never found one with the same quality steel as the original, no matter what the advertisements said.

    Simple question…..

Once at a reenactment there was a driving rain. At Ticonderoga. My fusil fired 33 times in succession with no misfires. BUT, the gun was warm when the rain started, and I was careful to keep the lock covered between shots. Another time at Martin's Station the rain came before the battle. I...

    Chopped Flintlocks. How early?

I seem to remember Jackie Brown having a hand in that.

    Touch hole diameter.

Unless you damage a touch hole (like I did), then you have to use a liner. Otherwise, no.

    accuracy

Milice carried privately purchased guns made by different arsenals over a period of time. The calibers varied.

    Touch hole diameter.

I start with 1/16 and go up from there as necessary to get good ignition. I have never had to go past .79.
  15. Fitzhugh Williams

    accuracy

As to chewing balls, the Canadien Milice brought their fusils from home, and they were of varying bore sizes. They were issued balls that were of a uniform size. Sometimes it was necessary to chew them go make them fit the bore.

    Stuck

You could just clean with a worm and tow. You can even wash the tow and reuse it, if you should want to.

Anyone tried the re-enactor powder ??

Reenacting Powder is a company's creative way of marketing their seconds.

    Starting a .62 Rifle build

I have a number of fusils with round barrels and I have never dovetailed any of them. I silver solder the barrel lugs to the barrel and have never had a problem. Ony time it is somewhat difficult is when the front sight is opposite the front lug. I add solder to the barrel and wire the lug...

    Jack Garner Signed Flinter

I have a couple of his guns from about 20 years ago. I always heard that he had apprentices who worked with him and I wondered if they did much of the work on some guns and he signed off on them. One of my guns has a 44" Rice barrel and an L&R lock. Very plain, but it is my "shooter".

Military Heritage India-made Fusil de Chasse

Some years ago I was looking for a 1728 fusil and the only place to get them was either the Rifle Shoppe or one of the India gun sellers. I went to Crown Point with money in hand to buy one of the India-made ones. The seller had only one left and it was just too bad to buy, so I went home and...
