    Thompson/Center Arms Hawken Questions

Agree with Deerstalker and Boomerang. Also, I have been able to remove the nipple and shine a small but bright LED light into the drum and been able to look down the bore and get some illumination of the breech. If you get the right angle shining the light in it does get some light into the...

    started

I would hope so. One thing I don't get, even with a family emergency I would still reach out to the other party and explain myself with an assurance of payment plus a little extra for the trouble ASAP, and an open line of communication along the way. People have family emergencies, it...

    Priming Powder, 4F or ?

I'm very green to flintlock but so far I'm really enjoying it. I did get myself 1lb of 4F for priming as that's what I had always heard was recommended....until I started hanging out here 🤣 At any rate, I'm not here to assert any opinion on this vs that. 4F has been working well for me so...

Powder for Longer or Shorter Barrels.

I get what you are saying. But I enjoy the tinkering aspect of this hobby and what can be learned from it. I have a very mechanical mind and like to know how things work, why things work, and maybe discover a better method along the way. This forum is the campfire of the modern age that brings...

Powder for Longer or Shorter Barrels.

That's really cool! Thank you for sharing 🙂 Something interesting though, I got nowhere near the velocity predicted by that calculator. I was in the 1400s. Does that calculator work in actual charge weight or the volumetric measurement? I understand different rifles will perform different...

Powder for Longer or Shorter Barrels.

Earlier this week I tried 3F in one of my TCs for the first time. It's a PA Hunter with the 32" 1:66 barrel. I was shooting 80gr by volume of 2F behind a PRB. I tried 70gr by volume of 3F. Accuracy seemed very similar to the 2F loads and were running 1400-1500fps over the chrony. I haven't yet...

TC sidelocks , how many different models ?

I agree. They had a pretty big list of "traditional" MLs to choose from. Well made and affordable. I look back on that time when my dad and I would thumb through their product catalog with fondness. Very sad it's a thing of the past now. I've sort of started to gather a small collection of old...

TC sidelocks , how many different models ?

Boy that sure is a pretty rifle 👍🏻

    Anyone use one if these?

Switching from buckhorns to a tang mounted peep sight will almost always net you tighter groups and potentially longer effective range. Longer sight radius, clearer and more precise sight picture can really step up the open sight shooters game.

    FF FFF powder

Apologies for reviving an older thread. Been using the search and not having much luck. I'm about to try 3F black in my 50cal rifles for the first time based on good results I've seen reported here. Rifles are TC Renegade percussion (26"), TC Hawken percussion (28") and TC PA Hunter flintlock...

    Newb question

Re-barrelling on these is simple. Buy a good used barrel, remove barrel wedge, cock the cock, tip barrel up at the muzzle and swing it out of the stock. A ten second process. 👍🏻

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

Exactly what I use in my 45-60 and what I was thinking of with my question.

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

So as this old thread keeps chugging along and I've caught back up, I find myself pondering a question. Let me start by saying that my MLs are always used with BP or if in a pinch, Pyrodex and nothing else. Smokeless will never end up in any of my MLs. So that said my thoughts followed by...

    Thompson Center Renegade.

It's interesting that this thread came up. I've given thought to picking up a 54 and maybe even the rare 58 barrel so I can play around with different calibers using my 50cal Renegade. All my stuff is 50cal and have been wanting to add a 54 and 58. Don't know why but it never dawned on me that...

    Under 7lbs, she's gonna be a little punchy...I like it! 🤘🏻

Re-line and carbine cut 54 cal arrived

I really like that! I maye have to pick up a 'Gade barrel with a rough bore at some point just to make a carbine barrel I can swap into my stock. Kinda like a Win 94 Carbine, just a nice rifle to carry in the woods. Trapper is even better!

Updated TC cock installed, TC PA Hunter

Dropped the cock a few more times after this vid. Spark volume seems to be getting better with more use.

Updated TC cock installed, TC PA Hunter

So today I got around to fiddling with this frizzen. Found the only mods necessary to fit the unmodified Lyman frizzen is to narrow the pivot housing and slightly shorten the little toe on the pivot housing that rests against the frizzen spring. Leaving it as it came made it pretty stiff to open...
