Can you ship a percussion Sharps through the USPS?

Today I received a call from Shiloh Sharps that my percussion 1863 Shiloh Sharps was ready for shipping. However, they said that it had to be shipped to an FFL. When I asked whose rules this was, eventually the lady said it was UPS's rules. I said you could ship through USPS and she said...

No, you can't ship black powder pistols or handguns via the USPS.

A common question that comes up here is, "Can I ship a black powder pistol or handgun through the USPS?" The answer is no. There is then always a lot of debate around this. A lot of people are confused between the Federal definition of a firearm and USPS postal regulations. These are the...

Great article in this month's MuzzleBlasts

There is a great article in this month's Muzzle Blasts. The fellow dispels the myth that banking the powder away from the touch hole results in better ignition.

Where to find .450" diameter, .5" thick fiber wads?

I am trying to find some Circle Fly wads - .450" diameter, 1/2" thick. I used to buy these at Track of the Wolf - part number WAD-450-C, but they have been out of stock for some time. I use these as a filler inside my combustible Sharps cartridges between the powder and bullet. Thanks,

The Sharps percussion carbine and rifle - ammunition ahead of its time

Someone asked in a for-sale thread for a Sharps percussion rifle how they were loaded. I did not want to pollute their for-sale thread, so I figured I'd make a post. While there were other cartridge-based firearms contemporary to the Sharps, they all utilized some kind of cartridge that had to...

How to discriminate between modern steel and wrought iron.

I discovered this article in my facebook feed today. Interesting way to use a magnet to discriminate between modern steel and wrought iron. https://heritagedetection.wordpress.com/2015/10/04/a-non-invasive-test-for-wrought-iron-part-two-the-solution/

Looking for a contact at Chiappa USA

Hi, A few months ago I finished my first attempt at making a reproduction Hewes and Phillips conversion of an M1840 flintlock by using an Armisport/Chiappa M1842 as the basis. Since the M1840 is almost identical to the M1842 it was relatively easy. The only needed new parts are a lockplate...

    Made a reproduction H&P.

Hi all, About 4 years ago I started working on a project to make a reproduction of a Hewes and Phillips conversion of an M1840 flintlock-to-percussion musket. At the start of the Civil War, there was a shortage of weapons on both sides. The Union went and emptied their arsenals and discovered...

    Hello from Alabama

Hi all, I've been shooting muzzle loaders for about 10 years now. I shoot competitively in the North-South Skirmish Association. About a year ago I got into flintlocks. I've got a Pedersoli Pennsylvania and a Pedersoli Brown Bess. I'm also a member of the NMLRA.
