How bad did mess up my dovetail?

I mean if you want to learn you gotta break some eggs. Hopefully I'll see the barrel by June.

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

I ordered a new barrel kit from Traditions. $137.06 with shipping. Only problem is the lead time is 120 days since the parts are sourced from Spain, but at least I have a new barrel on order. Thanks everyone for all the great info that was provided.

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

Oh I had no intention of trying to use my mig welder. Again my plan is to replace the barrel, but finding a replacement barrel for the Traditions St. Louis Hawken has been a dead end so far. I may end up buying a second kit for $360, but really really really don’t want to do that.

I like this idea. I actually have my own MIG welder, but have a couple of tig welders/metal shops near me.

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

i am likely doing a new barrel, but so far finding a replacement has been futile. At this stage it will likely be some time before I can run down a replacement.

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

I will probably look at a replacement barrel. I see Deer Creek Products sells CVA drop in barrels I am going check if that might work. As they say, you gotta break some eggs…..

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

This was a Traditions kit and came with plastic sights with the rear sight being mounted using two drilled and tapped holes in the barrel.

Where did you find that? I had tried finding a dovetail jig and could not locate one in stock anywhere. Really wish I would have had that.

So I could still see the drill dimples from the drill holes I was trying to cover up from the get go.

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

My next question is the gun still shootable being the depth of the dovetail?

How bad did mess up my dovetail?

Welp….took the plunge and said “F’IT” and tried my hand at doing a dovetail. Yeesh. It ain’t purty, but the rear sight is on my Hawken. Any “constructive” criticism would be appreciated. 🤢
