    Teach the children muzzleloaders

I wish there were more muzzleloaders sized appropriately for small shooters.

    Stock wood

I have purchased from them before. I find their prices are a little high but that is weighed against the fact that you can see pictures of the stock before buying and the dimensions and grain orientation is given. I have never had a problem with them delivering in a timely fashion.

The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium and box lock actions

I have never had a bad experience with them. I have the underhammer action from them that works great. as well as two barrels. you will need to call them to see if things are in stock.

Small Gap .23MM Breech to stock

put inletting black on the barrel. then put the screw in and tighten. take it apart and remove metal from where the bolt is contacting the barrel. lots of original guns had notches in the barrels to accommodate lock bolts.

    BREECH PLUG

go slow when it comes to taking off metal. once you remove too much you have to go to the next flat. a good vise and wrench is nesisary to get things tight. and I put anti sieze on the threads. the plug is likely going to have be checked for fit a few times and once the gun is built if it ever...

    Stock Art

I am not very talented but I will get better with practice. learning to do wood burning would be fun.

    Kibler .32 Caliber SMR….

I don't have one. and I am a big fan of 32 and am constantly fighting the urge to bet a SMR. the 36 will be a tad lighter, buck the wind a little better. the only big advantage is if a person doesn't cast. the 36 can be fed with 000 Hornady buckshot. which would be cheaper than buying .310...

    trigger guard

you could anneal the brass and try to reshape it to give you a bit more room. you will likely have to refinish the part to remove any new tool marks you put in it.

    Herman Rupp 1793 Build

that is outstanding work. a lot better than my first one. heck even the last one I did. I look forward to you posting pictures of your next project.

just a standard hardpoint saw from a big box store.

    Hand Saws

I use that kind of saw for most of the time. the only problems I have are that it is difficult to adjust the direction of the cut so starting the cut is really critical. highly figured wood sometimes causes the thin blade to cup or bow. my western style saw does not have those problems but for...

    Bore/barrel size

i don't have any numbers but I do know many rifles get built with the lugs soldered on because the swamped profile makes parts of the barrel to thin to have a dovetail.

    rate(s) of twist chosen

it is all about stabilizing the ball. larger balls can have slower twist rates than smaller ones. small calibers like 25 and 32 are great at a faster pitch like 1:32 while something like a 4 bore can go as slow as 1:144. but 1:48 and 1:66 works good for most calibers between 40 and 60.

    Traditions Crockett kit thoughts?

I made one from a seconds kit. overall it went together fairly easy. they are good shooting guns that I can recommend.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

I have been reading the apostolic fathers and have now moved onto the early church fathers. reading st. Augustine's confessions right now.

    .36 cal caplock loads

with small caliber guns I normally start at 15 grains and work up to 30 in five grain increments. what is the twist rate? once you establish a powder charge that works try a different patch thickness or lube. only change one thing at a time and keep good notes on your targets. what is the twist...

    Nice tools

any width is most useful for gouges? I currently use a hammer and chisel for engraving and have a ball vise. I might get some transfer paper to help with my drawing.

    Nice tools

I have decided to sell some of my revolvers since I don't shoot them. this means I have some cash to spend on some nice to have tools and components. I am thinking of getting a complete set of gouges in wither 3mm or 6mm a nice set of rifflers to clean up around carvings. any other tools you...
