    Lee R.E.A.L. bullets undersized ?

Directly quoted from Lee's instructions: "LUBRICATION Any good commerical black powder lubricant wiped into the grooves works well. Even a vegetable shortening such as Crisco will work. This is an area that you may wish to experiment, along with different charges for maximum accuracy." When...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

The softening of the residue happens during the shot when the lube disperses and mixes with the fouling making it like a very heavy peanut butter consistency if the proper lube and amount of it is used. Then, the next loading of the REAL bullet easily scrapes the softened mixture. The felt...

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

Frank, I've not used this method but, I am familiar with it. One holds their palm up and flattened with the ball centered. You then trickle powder directly onto the ball until it is just covered. Size of one's hand shouldn't make a significant difference. This is done once then a measure...

Need Help On Storing Lubed Conicals

Yes Pietro, I've had lubed REAL's go from soft lubed to dry crumbling lubed over extended storage times with some lubes.

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

I think you left out the word "not" in that opening sentence. Just helping a BP brother out. LOL

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

When all I had left was some almost free Pyrodex (dirt cheap when walmart closed a local store) and a few ounces of BP for priming, I would load with Pyro' then trickle a few grains of 4f BP into the bolster directly under the nipple's flash hole. Instant ignition and great accuracy every time.

It's all about the sauce...never forget to pack the sauces! LOL

    Gaggle of jakes

What do you think the odds are that you would find eaten quail chicks during the Iowa spring or fall turkey season? Do your homework then figure that one out if you're in a region outside Iowa. I'd say it would be pretty rare since most quail hatch around June in your region. Turkeys only...

    Ball Pullers

Never had a problem with the wood screw type pullers you referred to in the OP. Have used them probably a half dozen times over the years. You have to use considerable force while screwing into the lead and you need a good grip on the rod to pull the ball or slug. Using a wood loading rod...

    REAL or maxi ball

Both kill efficiently. I've had much better accuracy with pure lead REALs in 50 and 54 over an ox-yoke felt wad from 5 different rifles.

    Stupid stuck nipple

Guys I know we all have our favorite penetrating oil, some of us are following brands handed down by our fathers. There has been several folks perform pretty thorough testing and I tend to go with proven tests to pick a brand. Look up Project Farm and his testing on youtube and see what you...

    Exit wound on deer.

Worst case scenario...you hit the chest cavity but no serious damage done to vitals or major vessels. Two holes help to ensure a rapid pneumothorax or collapsed lungs and rapid suffocation. I always use Lee REAL conicals and have never recovered one. As a matter of fact, I shot two deer with...

What to use for a powder measure?

I never thought it was wise to use the integral measure attached to the flask except for the tiny priming flasks for flintlocks. Placing several ounces of powder over the muzzle while dumping powder into it can get very exciting very quickly.

    Early 18th century jerked meat

Last jerky I made used soy sauce and a few other ingredients. Soy is pretty salty and allows the jerky to be finished with a bit higher moisture. Makes it a lot better on the jaw muscles! LOL

    Early 18th century jerked meat

Man, our two store's meat sections discount 1/4 off on older cuts and it's gone within one hour of opening. Wish I could get 3/4 off like you.
