    1862 Police Pocket antique shooter

    Figures... that's one sexy beast!

    1862 Police Pocket antique shooter

I had the opportunity to run a few round balls through the ol' gal today... just a single cylinder of low-powered shots, however. Function was perfect, and accuracy was surprisingly good given the pimple-sized front sight and barely-there rear sight/notch in the hammer. Kept all the balls in a...

SOLD Rare Colt 2nd gen 1860 Army custom shop LNK model

It's your choice not to respond here. I won't ask by PM, however, as that's my choice. GL with the sale.

SOLD Rare Colt 2nd gen 1860 Army custom shop LNK model

I am interested (very), but want to know more about it before making a decision about potentially buying. Via Colt's lookup , the SN doesn't return a 2nd gen 1860, nor does there seem to be any info online about a "F1203LNK series" -- please elaborate. And lastly, are the screws from the Colt...

    Shooting a 170-year-old Colt Pocket

The main issue with these small "pocket" pistols is their sensitivity to getting gunked up. Repro or artifact, it'll be the same. Sure, it worked perfectly for 10 rounds, but if I'd gone 20, I'd wager there would have been fouling-induced trouble. Pocket pistols -- especially the 1849 -- were...

    Shooting a 170-year-old Colt Pocket

It's definitely an effective system -- depending on the bay, sometimes too much so. Bay #1 has a steady breeze of at least 10mph, and it gets mighty cold when the A/C kicks on! This was recorded on bay #6, the last position in room 1 (of two) in the facility's "rifle" section. Smoke from this...

    Shooting a 170-year-old Colt Pocket

Shootable examples are out there to be found, and for a "reasonable" price, but you'll need to be both patient and ready when the right one comes along! Go for it if/when the right one comes along. As infrequently as I'm willing to actually shoot any 1849 Pocket, owning a functioning antique...

    Shooting a 170-year-old Colt Pocket

Now this was a fun experience... firing a couple cylinders of .31-caliber ball out of a 170-year-old Colt 1849 Pocket (manuf. 1854). Function was perfect, with minimal clogging up of the works from the fired caps. Accuracy was decent. What an absolute blast!

    found a 1849 Pocket shooter

Note too, the grinding was sloppy enough it also hit the top part of the bottom screw. This is an unfired revolver, but I'm not the original owner, so it may have come from the "factory" like this, or its prior owner thought the pull should be lighter... who knows? Wasn't me, however!

    found a 1849 Pocket shooter

There aren't many activites I enjoy more than working on unmentionables, but getting the hollow-ground bits on a vintage BP, that needs almost no prompting... :) Colt 1849 Pocket 3rd gen signature series, manuf. 1997/'98 trigger pull weight: 2.4lb (average) mainspring measurements: base below...

    found a 1849 Pocket shooter

I completely disassembled the vintage gun for cleaning and inspection, but didn't compare components with the 3rd gen. It'd be easy enough to take down either/both and take some photos. Other than comparing mainsprings, is there anything else you're looking to know, or want photographed?

    found a 1849 Pocket shooter

I posted recently about finding a shootable 1862 Pocket after being on the hunt for some time -- this particular model being my favorite design of all BP revolvers -- and that I was also looking for a shooter 1849 Pocket... the real trick being one that was affordable to me. Well, that search...

    1862 Police Pocket antique shooter

I have long been partial to the .36-caliber 1862 Police Pocket. To me, it's the epitomy of BP design elegance and power/balance/function -- although I also fancy the tidy 1849 Pocket. Thanks to availability and relatively low price, I was scouring the web for a shootable '49 antique when I...

    SOLD Colt 1849 Pocket, numbers-matching, 31 caliber, manufactured in 1852 - $900

For shipping a true antique pistol, a C&R license would be entirely sufficient. By definition, a C&R license is intended for dealings involving such relics. It'd only come up at all if there's an insurance claim (because the package didn't arrive, or the pistol was damaged in transit), and a...

    SOLD Colt 1849 Pocket, numbers-matching, 31 caliber, manufactured in 1852 - $900

There are a lot of different schools of thought about shipping BP arms through the USPS, and I have shipped directly to a buyer in the past as well. But doing so is at the sender's risk, even if it's insured. See this thread for detail on what can happen if you send a BP firearm -- even insured...
