    Is there another tool that can sub for spring vice?

    Plenty of good advice above. The only thing I have to add is buy s good vise. My first one was a cheap one; the only thing available at that time. It lasted for 2 whole times, then bent. I've since gotten the "deluxe" vise. Worth every penny...

    So I found this box leaning against the garage...SMR Build

    Been busy with work and holidays, but I've also been plagued with "paralysis by analysis" with regards to the toe plate issue. I've come to accept that it's my first build, and it's okay if it's not perfect. So, I'm slowly moving along, trying to do a little more here and there.
