    Nipples and cap fit

The slix shot nipples and #11 caps were a good solution on my 1861 Pietta revolver. Not too expensive and it's nice to be able to use the same caps on rifle and revolver.

    RWS 1075 primers

I have 100% ignition with RWS 1075 caps on my .45 CVA Kentucky. However, they don't fit my new shotgun well and ignition is spotty. I am going to try the nipple shaping trick mentioned in this thread on those nipples. I had ignition troubles with my 1861 Pietta .36 caliber, too, but the slix...

    Smoothbore newbie

I take it back. Conflicting info on the internet, believe it or not. I don't know when this was made but it looks like MedicMike was right and it is Belgian.

    Smoothbore newbie

Wow. Thank you R Ellis. I've already discovered the "ELG*" proof mark dates this gun between 1811 and 1892, apparently. I had no idea. Fascinating.

    Smoothbore newbie

Thanks again for welcomes. Ok - I pulled the barrels and discovered some marks. Not easy to read. I found a number: 276 that was legible. There seems to be another number in this picture which has three digits maybe, the last one being 6 - but I can't read it. There is a little symbol ELG with a...

    Smoothbore newbie

Thanks for responses and welcomes, all. @Grenadier1758, I didn't ask MedicMike but someone else had already asked him on the sale thread and he wasn't sure. But I was sure I wanted the gun. I don't know what vernier calipers are but I do have a set of analog calipers and the bore at the muzzle...

    Smoothbore newbie

I am still a green shooter and an even greener BP shooter but completely hooked. So, I recently found myself buying my third BP gun already, and my first forum purchase, a cool Belgian SXS from MedicMike. (My other guns are a CVA Kentucky .45 and a Pietta .36 revolver.) For starters, is there...

SOLD NOW FOR SALE! MAJOR REDUCTION MUST GO! Nice original 12ga Belgium SxS! 450TYD!

Looks lovely and I am interested but I don't have anything to trade and not sure what a fair value on this type of gun would be. Maybe I could buy you one of the other rifles for sale here and have it sent to you? And then you send me the shotgun?

SOLD REDUCED! Original U.S. army Remington New Model Army

Maybe this is obvious to more experienced folks, but, is this a .44 caliber?

Regular misfires with Pietta .36 revolver

Useful info. I spent a fair amount of time trying to source No. 10s with no success. Must be a crowd of people getting into BP revolvers right now, or simply stocking up. The No. 11s didn't cause any jams during my short session but it was a short one.

Regular misfires with Pietta .36 revolver

Well, life happens and often it doesn't include time for shooting, but I finally did try out the slix shot replacement nipples on my .36 Pietta revolver. I only had time for about 10 shots but they all went off without a hitch. No misfires like I was having every other chamber, before. I'll need...

WITHDRAWN 1858 Old West Model (Cabelas) of the New Model Army 44 cal. $385.00

I am interested. I have a .36 1861 Pietta but would like to have the larger caliber, also, the cylinder on my gun is a pain to remove. Have to tap out a wedge and remove the barrel from the frame first. Is this gun of yours the type in which the cylinder is easy to remove and swap?

Fouling and accuracy in .45 Kentucky

Correction all! Grenadier is right - I meant .007 patch. Put my zero in the wrong place. These are analogue calipers, too. Akroguy - despite this thin patch it is still hard to load after my first shot. Glad to hear the scotch brite helped your loading. I think I will try a few more passes. The...

Regular misfires with Pietta .36 revolver

Thanks Red Owl. I am set to try exactly what you suggest. I've been using 3F goex black powder too.

Fouling and accuracy in .45 Kentucky

Good points. It is advertised as a .010 patch but I measured it as .070 after I bought some calipers. Maybe I shouldn't trust their lube either if they can't even measure the thickness of their patches accurately.

Fouling and accuracy in .45 Kentucky

Thanks much for all the responses. I should have given more background. I am definitely capable of sending a shot 8 inches and more off the mark without any help from a bad bore. Blaming the shooter is always the first thing I do when unhappy with my groups. That being said, I am shooting off a...

Fouling and accuracy in .45 Kentucky

Well, here I am asking for advice again. I hope someday to be able to contribute rather than simply receive. But here goes: I was having consistency problems and tried polishing the bore (100 strokes with green scotch brite) per some suggestions here. It helped but I am still much more accurate...

Regular misfires with Pietta .36 revolver

Thanks very much for the new replies to this old post, all. The cautions about the possibility of stuck ball when the gun goes pop, rather than boom, is well taken. I will be very careful about that in the future. Since my original post I cleaned the gun again thoroughly and used a nipple pick...

Regular misfires with Pietta .36 revolver

Ah! It is brand new. I have only used 3f Goex in it. I will take it all apart and do as suggested. Thanks much.
