    Antiqued 1858 Pietta

No, he's talking about AlexB's picture!! Holy cow!! That photo of both guns side by side . . . (that AlexB posted!!!) . . . I'm pretty sure Slix Shot nipples sells those base pin keepers. Mike Glad I came along and straightened out this thread !!! 🤣 Now I know what English...

    Issues with new Pietta.

Blend the bottom of the cam flush with the hammer. That will remove the lip that the bolt arm is catching on. Mike

    Did Remington steal Colt tech???

Well, there ya go. Conversions ARE my personal thing. So, if I want a "cartridge gun", I make it !! 🤣 There's just no reason to perpetuate the lie that the open-top platform is weak when it clearly isn't. Just trying to educate a little bit . . .

    Did Remington steal Colt tech???

Somkerr, there's definitely no fight, I ended that a year and a half ago with the announcement of the then new Kirst 45acp cylinder. I've shot a steady diet of +p's out of it ( for testing purposes, not a recommendation) since then and there is absolutely nothing structurally different than...

Are cap rakes really necessary or a solution in search of any real problem ?

😆 Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag !!! Everyone's been wondering where the caps have been the last couple of years . . . I've gottum!! ALL of um !!! Been testing something new for several months and we should have a pretty good handle on the "longevity" of it in about 20 more years...

    Did Remington steal Colt tech???

So, why would you take apart a revolver during battle? I highly doubt that cleaning your revolver was high priority during battle 😆!! Please explain "vastly superior" . . . Mike

    REGARDING 1862 5-SHOT POLICE MODELS?

Those aren't "Colt" adjustments . . . they're "tinkerer" adjustments. It /they may have never been fired but they were definitely "played" with!! Mike

    REGARDING 1862 5-SHOT POLICE MODELS?

Wow!! That's not how you adjust a bolt arm !!! What does the cam look like? Mike

    Issues with new Pietta.

I'm guessing you mean it catches on something when it's being "lowered" ( instead of "cocked"). If that's the case, it's the left bolt arm hitting a "too proud" cam. The reset angle cut to allow the cam to push the arm aside is probably insufficient. Those are the kind of things that heavy...

    Did Remington steal Colt tech???

I believe Colt didn't bother since they were rather quick to file lawsuits for any other patent infringements. The Open top platform was a better/ stronger item than the Root top strap ( and the later Remington). Mike

    Pietta Spiller & Burr Revolver

The only reason for a heavy main is to mask a rough action. It only takes a 4-5 lb hammer draw to pop a cap. Mike

How to ream cylinders and to what size?

Ok. Thanks. Because of the soft lead? With unmentionables it's usually 1 - 1 1/2 tho. over bore size. Mike

How to ream cylinders and to what size?

    I'm confused . . .

Are cap rakes really necessary or a solution in search of any real problem ?

    M. De Land , yes, I had noticed that. In fact, for the rest of you folks that may be interested, the REASON the main setup is an "interference" fit (means parts contact) is to ensure ignition. Folks typically like their revolvers to go bang and ESPECIALLY the cowboy crowd. Just as the...

Are cap rakes really necessary or a solution in search of any real problem ?

Well the nice thing about having CAS shooters as customers, your work gets tested!! Active cowboy shooters shoot these revolvers as much in a year as the average revolvers get shot in a lifetime. So, I'll stick with 100's of revolvers that have been through 6 lifetimes with no hammers...

    Arbor Problem?

He mentioned making a new cylinder instead of moding a perc. cyl. A "modern" cyl would be the only way to go.

    Arbor Problem?

Let's not forget that the '73 Mod.P was designed in the BP era but has been in the "smokeless era" since 1905. The only difference is the materials ( they really don't know "what" they're "designed" for). Mike

Are cap rakes really necessary or a solution in search of any real problem ?

Well, just noticed this. Glad you like the shield, but to keep harping on a "defect" that doesn't exist is a little comical. You see, there about a 700 revolvers with this mod ( including all mine ) in use. Many of these revolvers are competition revolvers and there's not been one "failure" so ...

Cylinder locks up on half cock

The bolt is dropping off the cam much too early. Pics of the hammer cam and bolt would help. Mike
