Combination Rod Ends/Jegs and Combination Tools, Yea or Nay?

For range use I have a one piece 3/8" brass rod that is tapped for 10-32 stuff at one end and has a nice metal T handle on the other. Use for cleaning, etc. as well. Tackle box full of BP specific shooting supplies - powder, caps, etc. plus a couple of different style worms, jags, brushes...

    Favorite caliber to shoot

I've a "thing" for smaller calibers, so the ML rifle I've always imagine I'd own is a .32 or .36... But my first was a .54, then I bought a .50 and then sold both without ever even shooting the 50, and quickly used the funds to buy a better .50 (went from CVA to TC) and a .45 (again, CVA to...

What is the reasonable distance to quickly kill a turkey with a muzzleloader?

The blinds I'm hunting out of have trees/bushes ranged appropriately, maybe a decoy set as a marker, etc no matter what kind of gun I'm toting when chasing turkey. Pattern the shotgun, determine your max distance and either become expert at judging it or do some measuring from your blind set...

    32 v 36

Fingers do OK loading my mouse farts (762x39 w/ a 85gr .312" pistol bullet) and the muzzle loader has much more room to work around than the small spot in my single stage press :) The stouter ramrod does sound like a better option Like I said, minimal chance of actually using it for small...

Hard cast, wide flat nose bullets?

Weeell..... the modern response is "use a sabot". Since that won't fly here.... I have to ask, would paper patching provide enough rifling engagement so that a standard hard cast slug could be used?

    Uberti 1858 Remington army

My Lyman-imported 1858 is an Uberti, but was made in 1971 so the quality may/may not have changed over the years. 100% *mechanically* reliable. IE, cylinder always rotates when I cock the hammer, hammer always falls and smacks with authority when I pull the trigger, etc. Chemically reliable...

    32 v 36

I have a thing for small calibers and so I've got a hankerin' on adding a .32 or .36 caliber percussion to my flock. 99% use for target/plinking, but there is that small chance that I could go squirrel hunting during ML season So... ignoring what may or may not be available for sale...

T/C renegade v/s CVA mountain rifle

While not the Mountain Rifle, I just sold two CVAs (Lynx in .54 and Bobcat in .50) and bought two TCs ...

    Southern Shot Measure

As un-modified, 75gr weight Schutzen 3Fg or 7/8oz #5 lead shot based on the two I use :) About half what I need for shot just perfect for powder though.

    #11 nipple to 209 primer

1/4" aquarium air line tubing works fine. Can even get 'em to cycle around the cylinder on my Uberti made 1858. But unable to make 'em go pop on any of the 1858 cylinders, either of the 2 CVA rifles I just sold, or either of the new-to-me TC rifles I just got. So yeah... I'd be interested in...

So, A Mountain Man Walks Into A Gunshop....

In reality, he'd notice the AR15s, AKs, FN-FALs, etc. And he'd notice the bolt guns. And then being the cheap guy he'd pick up a Mosin Nagant and a tuna can full of ammo. If nothing else, he can always use it with the bayonet as a tent pole :)

    Crowning Accuracy

By definition the crown is just the end face of the barrel - no matter what shape/condition it is in. And I would bet dollars to donuts that any true target rifle will have a nicely done even crown on it. A bad crown - uneven, unaligned to the bore, dented dinged and scraped - is detrimental...

    Crowning Accuracy

If you have it PROPERLY crowned, it can increase accuracy even.

    bullet for fast twist 45?

New to me TC New Englander with a 1:20 .45 (well, bit tighter, .4485ish) liner by Mr Hoyt. Looking for bullet suggestions for banging steel at 100 yards and possibly some pig or deer hunting within that same range. My wallet has a strong preference/requirement of "inexpensive" and my shoulder...

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

Reload speed is what had me thinkin about totin a second rifle should I give pig hunting a try. Watched some videos and now I am wondering how hard it would be to mount a proper bayonet on a TC front stuffer ...

New to me rifles - questions

So called Mr Hoyt today and got lucky enough for him to answer the phone. Didn't expect him to remember this job, etc. but just wanted a general hint of what "slgihtly tighter than .45" would mean... and while he's unsure, he'd bet only a thou or two under.

    Buckeye Carbine

Far from knowledgeable about TCs and variants but looks like a hybrid between a white mtn carbine and a new englander Of course it is kinda like the Taco Bell menu - 5 or 6 basic ingrediants with a few core variations all put together in different combinations.

Hello to my fellow Black Powder enthusiasts!

Your ears probably appreciate it though. Welcome OP to the forums! Any collector value is gone so do what makes you happy. Personally I would hust shoot it as is and enjoy.

New to me rifles - questions

What a wonderful muzzle loading month for me. Scored a second CVA in .50 (a Bobcat) to go with my .54 (a Lynx), then started wondering what I was gonna do. Friend of a friend heard about my mutterings, and offered me a VERY generous offer. So off went the two CVAs, and the big brown truck of...

    Sling strap suggestions

Get some long enough thin leather strips and make a very long and big solomon bar knot or similar. Look at "Tying it all together" on youtube for what they do with paracord, all of it can be done with leather strips
