    To clarify, no one I know especially myself has ever got homemade caps to work with speed loaders. Homemade caps work great, I've made about a thousand of them so far. And the only time I've had a misfire is because I wasn't following directions when I made them. Which is rare.

    Very true. "Discretionary income" is getting more difficult to come by and the Traditions guns I've had in my life (at least five) worked well. My 2 centavos to this discussion is the Trad flinter, I used Tracks hardening compound and it was much more reliable after having done it.

    Is pure lead really necessary for muzzle loading balls or bullet in rifle or hand gun ?

    I have to wonder what it would do to the frame of a Colt when that ball hits the forcing cone.
