12 ga double barrel pistol? Is it Unmentionable?

I like odd, edgy things, and those guys are singing to me. But, what is it like to shoot one? I value my hands....

Wet/dry metal sanding using light oi?

Or cutting oil? In my Draw File Question post, Phil mentioned that using water with wet/dry sandpaper would work better than dry paper. I believe that. So,. *I wonder whether light oil or de-odorized lamp oil would work better, using good liquid flow to wash out debris?*. The...

    Draw filing.

Hi, I'm re-browning my 36" 58 caliber octagon bbl, finding difficulty with sanding off the existing browning. I'm using 180 and 200 grit silicone carbide paper, and the bbl has some seemingly deep parallel scratches that I can't sand out, so far, and I'm sanding long and hard. I picked up a new...

    Slugging an oddball barrel.

Hello, some may remember my hex bore long-rifle, it's a real oddball. No way to ID it, but I like it. It's not a Whitworth and is a low value rifle. It shoots patched 58 caliber rb's tolerably well. Now I want to make an accurate slug to show to a machinist about making a hex boolitt mold for...

    Shortening a barrel..

Some of you may remember that I have the .6115 bore hexagonal-rifled 36-in barrel percussion rifle. My story was that the barrel wasn't fully rifled all the way to the end of the bore. So from the muzzle and back about 3 and 1/2 in it was about 58 caliber smooth round. A machinist who also does...

    Barricade?

Should Barricade be cleaned out of the barrel before shooting black powder or black powder substitutes through it?

    Traditions rifled musket.

The 1842 Springfield 69 rifled musket. Does anyone here own a traditions rifled musket? I wonder what kind of reputation this rifle has in this day and age. When I was in my early twenties my boss told me quote love is buying unquote. I must admit I'm attracted to this rifle, mostly because it's...

Has anyone soldered on an under-rib?

From what I know, you have to tin the under rib. I take that to mean that the bottom flat of my barrel needs to be tinned also. I tried looking up how to tin long pieces of steel like that. The closest I can get to it is to rub sal - ammoniac on the part while running the solder right up against...

    Ready-made patches for sale?

I don't own a good enough micrometer to measure the thickness of cloth. Is there a place that sells patches made for loading balls? I'm not talking about patches for cleaning, I use everything from terry cloth to old t-shirts for that. A good-enough micrometer costs $350, which I can't afford.

Does Track of the Wolf have a phone number?

All I have is an Android phone, and creating an account with them is impossible with this device, not sure why, also I can't see a phone number for them. Unless they only want to do business by mail or by account, then I guess they wouldn't need to staff a telephone.

What do you call this part?

There is a strong metal piece let into the end of my stock that the breech hook latches into. What's it called?

    Should I bed my barrel?

I know it's not traditional, but I'm sure those old timers made their stocks fit their barrels very closely. The breech end of my barrel has over a 1 16th inch gap between the bottom flat of the octagon barrel and the stock. I wonder if those gaps between the barrel and the stock affect accuracy...

Interesting formula for weight of a round ball.

Instead of going through all the algebra and conversions to figure the weight of a specific size pure lead round ball, you can use a constant x diameter cubed. So, a 395 caliber lead ball weight equals the constant 1502.6 x .395 x .395 x ..395 = 92.6 grains. Much easier. I thought this might be...

My custom California copper ML bullet.

More on this Kalifornia-correct copper bullet I'm designing for my .6115 caliber muzzleloader. The the 15 mm pure copper rod will fit snugly in my bore with a one 1000 inch patch. But I did the math, and only one inch of 15 mm diameter copper cylinder weighs 625 grains which is too heavy. But a...

What is this muzzleloader part called?

It's the metal part that soldered to the barrel of half-stock rifles that holds short tubes so you can load a ramrod just under the barrel. I had to resolder It and it was a bear of the job.

What is the name of this part of a rifle?

I'll try to post this picture: It's the part that is soldered to the barrel to hold the rings/tubes that hold the ramrod. Let me guess at the name: Stuntzel?? LOL I had to solder it back on and it was a b**** of a job.

    Does anybody know this guy?

I was studying different ways to Brown my barrel, and I found what I would like to do on a YouTube vid. The guy calls himself Isaac Haines of Lancaster County (Pennsylvania), after the famous Isaac Haines of the 1700s. It might be a stage name for his video. He has a pretty strong German accent...

This is a cross post about the DuraCoat finish.

I think I have to duck to even mention this to you guys. It seems so weird to actually paint a gun or rifle. If you haven't cursed me by now, I'll go on to say that DuraCoat is a two-part system so it must be some kind of epoxy formula, but it goes on very thin and the solvents flash off in...
