    Barrel browning, splotchy on some areas

    Browning a 40 cal barrel. Length too long to heat up in our oven. I used a torch to heat for the first coat, part came out great, other part blotchy. Is this a heat or cleaning issue. Plan on using a heat gun for the next coat.

    Cleaning jag getting stuck

    Hope you’re not using a button jag rather than a cleaning jag. The button jag does not have the tapered relief between the jag end and rod end. This will exacerbate the jamming in the bore. All other advice is sound and should solve your issue.

    But the triggers are like a Traditions Trapper. Patriot front trigger is the set trigger, this AMR rear trigger is the set trigger.

    What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

    Got both muskets out to check pull trigger. My artillery model, having just shot it, and knew it was light; let go with one pound. Adjusted land on tumbler until it held at 3 1/4 lb. Full length musket checked at 3 1/2 lbs. Ready for upcoming shoots!

    Black walnuts

    I have made and used a water based stain. Thanks for the hint on sorting and easing harvesting the nut meat. Here’s a pic of my shooting box, made with tulip wood, stained with black walnut husks. I’ve read the tannin becomes better after drying for 6 months.

    Inconsistent loading resistance

    Try seating the ball on the powder charge with a moist patch on the jag. You’ll be surprised at how much fouling will be pulled out and your bore will be more consistent shot to shot.
