Do you think he bought the side plates? Or did he kill the rifle owners and take them?

    Grandpa stories

My Mom's Dad would take me to the corner bar (he didn't drink) where he would buy me a Dixie cup of vanilla ice cream to take back to the house. Then he taught me to eat it with those small pretzel sticks. I passed that on to my kids, and I hope to pass it on to their kids, too, Lord willing...

    No jokes?

I sure hope that bear's daddy wasn't watching, or he's gonna get smacked!

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

My ancestors landed in 1732. I'll be watching this thread. :thumb:

    Another Texan

Howdy and Welcome from The Goodlands! We're heading to Cowtown this weekend to see our Grandson and his parents. We lived near Seminary Mall back in '83, and it was still a safe area. Not much in the Metroplex related to black powder, at least, not that I've been able to find. Do you have...

New member from New, Waverly, Texas

Howdy and Welcome from The Woodlands! Do you shoot at a range, or elsewhere? Can you shoot in the National Forest up there? If you're interested in reenacting, google the Goliad Massacre Reenactment 2024, coming up in a couple of weeks. It doesn't have the happy ending that San Jacinto has...

If It's SOLD, Mark The Listing SOLD.

Only the Seller can change it to SOLD. Or a Moderator. Seems like I used to know how, but that mental file can't be found. :dunno: And I've never sold anything, so maybe someone that knows should reply.

    New member from Texas

Another Howdy and Welcome from The Woodlands! Where might you be? Tell us more about your wife's family. My family was in the Lehigh Valley for a good while, back in that same time period. If you have any, photos are great, too.

    Newbie in Texas

And another Howdy and Welcome from the Lone Star State, down near Houston in The Woodlands! Whereabouts might you be? Show us photos of where and what you shoot, or might be buying. Lots of answers available here from lots of experienced shooters.

Interesting long knife at auction. Relic or recreation?

My thoughts: 1. If there are no stamps on the blade, it might just be a work knife, so not exceptionally valuable. 2. Which might deter the sharks from being attracted to it. 3. If you might build one like it, put in a reasonable bid. You can study the knife before you start yours, and...

    from over the pond (Germany)

And I've won a bunch of beer at our Oktoberfest contests with my long Bavarian lederhosen. I go for the historical look, not the blue-and-white plaid shirts that the kids wear now.

    from over the pond (Germany)

Another Howdy and Welcome from Texas! We visited out AF Son twice while he was at Ramstein. We visited Garmisch over Christmas of 2019, and I agree, it was beautiful! Went up to Zugspitze, with the snow and ice blowing at 30mph, stinging our faces. We went to Christmas Markts all over Germany...

    WITHDRAWN Maynard Model 2

I think they were, but I'm not positive. I'll look, next time I go to town. The shop didn't have any ammo, so that previous post with the ammo photo was a help. When I see it again, I'll look, and pm you if this has already sold. Again, good luck! 🍀

    WITHDRAWN Maynard Model 2

I held a Maynard this past weekend, at a pawn shop in Conroe, TX. Museum quality, with 2 extra barrels. The barrels had the levers attached, too. But at $10K, I had to leave it there. Sorry for the slight hijack, I just get excited regarding things that caught my attention, and I know you're...

    Full Stock Barrel Removal

I clean the barrel like you do, and have had no problems. Remove and replace the pins carefully, and it cleans up nicely. Oil it and store it until next time.

    1842 pistol real or repro?

Off topic, but on topic, too: I have a post-war pistol made in France with Nazi markings. The New York importer stamped a bunch of them, since the pistol looks like a German-made wartime model. Full disclosure when I bought it, so no issues for me. But, yeah, someone with stamps can create lots...

    New from Galveston Texas

Another Welcome and Howdy from Texas! I'm near Exit 73 on I-45, so not too far from you. With your experience, be sure to chime in when you have something to offer. And show us photos of you and your grandson shooting! We love photos!

I may be onto something here!

I admire Britsmoothy and his tales of hunting in Britain with his mighty dog Jess. He has been shooting bp for so many years that he makes a lot of us look like greenhorns. I have nothing but admiration and respect for Britsmoothy and Jess. Like I said, he would be rich if he could turn his...
