    SOLD .50 cal Lehigh

This is a lightly used, very svelte rifle. 42" Green Mountain barrel in .50 cal. Large Siler lock. LOP 14". OAL 58". 8.5 lbs. There are three "glaring" blemishes (visible ones noted in pictures). There's a small chip in the toe plate inlet. A small, superficial gap in the tang inlet (just...

    Non-toxic shot

Are modern muzzleloader barrels (Green Mountain, Colerain, Rice, etc) safe to use with non-toxic shot? Steel? Bismuth? Tungsten? May see a smoothbore in my future.

    “Must have” carving chisels

I want to get more serious with relief carving. I have a very modest selection of chisels, a couple gouges, v-gouges. A very Spartan selection. So if you could only have 6-8 carving chisels, what would you “gotta have”? Thanks

    Bear Grease

I'm not familiar with bear grease. How "heavy" a grease is it? What makes it so popular as a patch lube? One thing I do have easy access to and an ample supply on hand, is skunk grease (the heavier "sludge" leftover from rendering skunk fat down to oil). Skunk oil and grease is quite...

    Not to shabby

Had to put a new front sight on and finally got around to sighting it in. 100 yards. I'll take it! Proved once again necessity is the mother of invention. Forgot a punch but got lucky and found one.

    SOLD Raw horns

13 decent raw horns plus two tough ones. 15 total. There’s one that still has the core in it and two of the smaller ones have the core tip still in them otherwise they’re all ready to work on. Largest horns on the left are 11” at outside of curve and 3+” diameter bases. Most are medium and...

Lyman GPR kit, how the mighty have fallen

Picked up a GPR kit in flintlock a few weeks ago that I finally got around to starting on. First off, I built one of these 15 years ago and found that one to be a very good project for a beginner. Since than I’ve built a few more rifles, one more or less from scratch. While I’m far from an...

    Stock refinishing, is it possible?.....

I got a rifle I built ten years ago who’s finish I’ve never really been “in love” with. It was the first stock I ever did with Aqua fortis, it ended up very dark. The stock actually has a decent bit of figure that I feel is hidden by what I did to it. If memory serves, I believe I applied one...

    SOLD Lyman Great Plains Rifle

.54 cal, built from a kit 15 years ago. Only selling as I haven’t shot it in about ten years since getting into flintlocks, and I’m putting scratch together for a Kibler. If memory serves me, 75 grains of fffg, a .530 ball and .018 patch was the money maker. $550 plus shipping.

    Birchwood Casey Genuine Oil

Anybody used it? I like the sounds of a satin finish. I’ve never cared for tru-oil, even when rubbed back to take out the high gloss. This genuine oil apparently dries faster? Is it adequate for a “sealer”?

Welds and their affect on steel finishes

I’m thinking of welding a bead of build up on the comb face of a poorly fitted steel butt plate (front of the heel portion) than taking it back down with files to better fit a poor pre-inlet job. I plan on browning the steel furniture. Do you suppose that weld will take the brown differently...

    Patch box release geometry

I’m fixing to install a patch box release on a rifle. First time working with one of these. TOW included instructions. By their diagram the geometry of all the pieces looks like this. However, in my mind, shouldnt the push rod contact the spring lever as far away from the fulcrum point as...

    Horn Howler

Knocked out a howler today. She’s plenty loud! Good high pitch “young” coyote sound to it.
