I don’t know if this helps. Hard to capture the real color without good natural light.

    SOLD .50 cal Lehigh

Barrel finish was in the white. Patina'd naturally over the last 14 years hanging on the hooks in my office. I wouldn't call it "French gray" nor would I call it bright. Just a good dull gray. Lock is polished bright. Yes. The button is the patchbox release.

    #4 buck, 40 @ 40yards.

I'll tell ya one thing. I've spent a lot of time in big bear country. And although I've never had a close, tense encounter with one, if I ever do, I hope it's a 12 gauge with 00 buck and a slug or two. I carried a popular sized, large bore handgun. And after seeing what it WOULDNT do to a...

    #4 buck, 40 @ 40yards.

I’ve shot an awful lot of fox and coyotes with BB lead. In modern shotguns though. No need for buckshot. More pellets over bigger pellets.

    Non-toxic shot

Are modern muzzleloader barrels (Green Mountain, Colerain, Rice, etc) safe to use with non-toxic shot? Steel? Bismuth? Tungsten? May see a smoothbore in my future.

    Birchwood Casey's "Genuine Oil"

I like it! Like you, I’ve always found tru-oil to be a bit to glossy, even when knocked down with steel wool and wax. It is slower drying. It’s tung oil based according to the MSDS.
