Strangest opening day fall Turkey hunt

Here in Michigan, the opening day for fall Turkey was Friday the 15th. Having had to work the entire day, I was to beat to head into the woods to even enjoy sitting for the evening. Saturday morning rolls around, I gather all my essentials, up and at ‘‘em with a cup of coffee at 5:00am(well...

    My sons new camera

I shoot right handed, but I load left handed. Easier to tip the horn with my left hand, holding the rifle with my right. Always have.

    Interesting find

Of all places, eBay has some interesting stuff. It definitely a solid horn for less than $25. Figured I’d share if someone has heard of the gentleman that made it.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I made my first deer antler powder measure (40 grains). Never really thought about it until today. How would the center of the antler been bored out if a Dewalt drill wasn’t available?

    Best Shot You Ever Had

The one in a million shot,40 yards with the .31 caliber colt pocket at a bag of flour we had setting on top of a steel plate. It’ll never happen again, I’m not THAT good.

    Inexpensive Shooting Bag

Jim K, I remove the thin strap on mine and used a powderhorn strap. Much more comfortable.

    Best gauge

Having hunted small game most of my life, I’ve used the same unmentionable Stevens 16 SxS and with 71/2 shot never had a problem. I switched to hunting with BP about 15-12 years ago, my single shot .58 with #4 shot has gotten me some pretty delicious dinners.

    Inexpensive Shooting Bag

For my Fall shotgun season, I ordered a shoulder bag from eBay. plenty of room and really nice leather, my wife uses it during the summer. Not H/C, but it'll pass for what I use it for. And it cost me a whole $23.00

CLOSED Testing the waters, .58 smoothbore

I’m looking to trade a two of a kind(the other is in a museum in Vermont) an 1858 .58 smoothbore. This gun is documented to Wales Carlton, a gun maker who took rejected Springfield barrels and made them into spartan sufficient hunting guns for former slaves and freedmen who made it east before...
