I got 6mm x 1 from TOTW and a rod blank. I am going to make another rod from a dowel blank. Where or what material is best. The TOTW is blonde wood. Next is fitting the hammers. The new nipples are much closer to on target.

These are not original. The Lyman nipples are 6mm and fit after cleaning the jacked up threads in the barrel. Working on getting longer cones.

Mine measure as 6mm. Trying to determine pitch.

I just tried my thread gauge on them. M6 metric but I am leaning towards 1/4 by 28. Sound right?

Agreed. working on the nipple setup. Not sure of the threads on this one.

I believe this is a William Richards design. I have all of the tools and have done quite a bit of work. The research and knowledge is the most valuable tool...

I have been looking at both TOW and Dixie. I am going to measure the threads as these are not the original nipples. The hammers are substantial and may be very difficult to bend into the proper alignment. They are close though. Bottom shelf strikes the caps. I also noticed that the left lock has...

Yes. That is a standard solution for most of the black powder hammer misalignment problems. I am looking for suggestions and critiques before I tear into it.i believe this piece has no value beyond what I put into it.

I expected something along that line and have it as a project piece. Just looking for suggestions before I begin the project.

So what is the fix for misalignment of the hammers and nipples?

I have a London Fine Twisted. Several parts were changed. I am going to return it to its former glory. Most importantly the nipples are wrong and don't line up with the hammers.

    Traditions Hawken Rear Sight Help

I called Traditions direct and was pleasantly surprised that a real person was there to help me. I ordered and received the metal sights from them. Only one screw hole mounting point, but far superior sights to the plastic things that they even said themselves were outfit to save money. Quick...

Starting a Traditions Hawken build kit in 50 Cal Percussion

Boiled linseed oil has always been my choice of finish. I even use it on guitars. All of my other stocks are done this way. The barrel will be the defining factor. As for the brass, I am trying to decide if I want to antique it or polish it.

Starting a Traditions Hawken build kit in 50 Cal Percussion

I just launched a new project. This is the Traditions St Louis Hawken in 50 calibre with the barrel in the white. I did some basic fitting this morning and find that this is a rough cut blank. That makes it a more interesting task. I had to heat the trigger guard and reshape it to make it short...

    Traditions Hawken Rear Sight Help

I also have a couple of the Lyman Sights I may consider dove tailing into the Traditions barrel. Quite a project with no turning back.

    Traditions Hawken Rear Sight Help

Same issue here. I have some Traditions with the metal sights and have a Kit I am building with the plastic sight set. I will NOT use plastic sights on any firearm. I replaced all of my Glock sights with superior metal sights. I have a good workshop and have considered doing the dovetail cut...
