    March 2023 Postal Target

Well guys, I just didn't get it done this month and with winds gusting to 60mph or more today it looks like my target would be in the next county before I got a shot off. Go figure, tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful though! Chris

    February 2023 Postal Match

A trick I use when trying to figure out where 50% of the hole is in situations like this is to lay my target on top of a blank target so I can see the intact lines through the hole. Good shooting Richard! Chris

    SMR half cock problem

Does the lock function correctly if removed from the stock? If not: I had the same issue with my SMR and it was entirely my fault. In my case the lock inlet wasnt quite deep enough underneath the bridle area and while tightening the lock screw would pull the pan flush with the barrel it would...

Kibler SMR is Here! (Build Log)

Mine is the same, I left it the way it is because i feel that it adds a bit more protection to the toe of the stock, plus if I ever want to add a toe plate later i'll have a bit of extra material there when I go to fit everything up. Chris

    Unknown Percussion Pistol

a quick internet search turns up T Thomson as a gunsmith in Aberdeen Scotland. maybe others can add more? Chris

    Cock alignment

my Kibler SMR is like this, but with the cock seemingly twisted slightly inboard. Its no problem though, I just set the flint in the cock semi tight and then lower the cock and flint against a closed frizzen to square everything up before final tightening of the jaw screw.

    8-32 or 10-32

8-32, I must be the odd man out, I always shoot from the pouch and load with the wooden rod. I also ram with the steel tip on the ball. Chris

    Kibler SMR lock and flints

I use black English flints, bevel up for the first 20 or so shots til i get sparking problems as the flint becomes shorter. then I flip bevel down for the next 20 or 30 shots. After that I'm forced to shim toothpicks behind the flint to get good enough geometry to spark and that usually lasts...

Kibler SMR is Here! (Build Log)

I used Jax black on my ramrod pipes and am happy with the result. One word of caution, make sure the entry pipe is fully inlet and aligns with the hole in the stock before drilling for the pin! I have since burnished the glossy glossiness from my true oil finish, I will try and get some new...

    February 2023 Postal Match

Thanks Gary, After shooting the postal match target I moved back to 120yds for some long range fun off the bench, targets were 3 pop cans on a log roughly a two feet apart. First 3 shots aimed at the center can missed and the 4th, also aimed at the center can, struck the right hand can 2ft away...

    February 2023 Postal Match

I got my target shot this afternoon, it was definitely interesting! Gary, As the judge of our shootin' match I will leave my final score up to you. Depending on your interpretation of the rules I scored either 55 or 57. My eighth shot was aimed towards the 8 o'clock bull but it struck solidly...

Kibler SMR sight in and load development

I used a stack of shot bags underneath the first ramrod pipe back from the muzzle and turned my chair perpendicular to the bench, this allowed me to get a somewhat proper southern style hold on the gun and put everything aft of the trigger guard off the back of the bench, I was resting my left...

Kibler SMR sight in and load development

I get that I may get better results with a thicker patch, the patches I picked up didnt look "blown out" until I got up to 60gr 3F. My 25yd group with 40gr 3F was equal to yours pictured and that is good enough for me. I sight in the way I shoot and 90% of my shooting is from the pouch...

Kibler SMR sight in and load development

I made my 2nd range trip with the .40 SMR yesterday with my sole objective being zeroing the sights load development off the bench. I set my target at 35yds and had at it with a .395" ball, .010" patch and Mr. Flintlock lube, swabbing after every 5 shot group. My observations were as follows...

    Left handed flintlock question

I always figured that in a pinch I would just stick a slow match or a lit cigar in the pan and call it good :ghostly: Bambi wont know the difference! Chris

    Napping your flint

17:20, it works for Jim Kibler and now it works for me. I feel no danger of cutting myself unless I were to run my finger down the knapped edge for some reason? Chris
