    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

That’s a fascinating idea .you guys with skills could probably figure out how to actually make it real.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Thanks Mike .. the stripped threads & complications with bolt/nut set up makes sense. It’s hard to put yourself back in Time when this revolver was THE high tech invention of day. There had to be a point where the designer said “that’s it… I’m done!” Given that wedges commonly held barrels in...

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Has anyone tried changing from the wedge to a bolt / screw to lock the barrel to the frame on an open top to make the connection fixed rather than the more fluid positioning that can happen with the wedge. Again, just curious. I’m assuming your fixes makes the barrel / frame connection fixed so...

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Why did manufacturers of original guns like Colt stop making open top style revolvers (other than as replicas)? The latest one I found was 1872 Colt. I was curious if there is any written history on this.

I’d be amazed if you don’t end up with some of each … once you get one ..

    Cannon ball fit

Thanks for the info … I happened to see a bit of a pirate movie and it prompted my thinking then I thought about loading revolvers which led to my question. Thanks again.

    Cannon ball fit

Do cannon balls leave a shaved ring of lead like a Colt or Remington revolver when you load it or does the ball roll down the barrel like you see in movies etc? Just curious !

    Sharps with loose powder

Well … I don’t think I heard back from anyone using partially filled chambers on their sharps with black and since I don’t want to go over my 55grn by volume amount , I decided to just make up some cartridges. I will bring loose as well and try a couple that way with different amounts of black...

    Sharps with loose powder

I’m using a newer Ped carbine… no offgassing generally … cartridges are so easy but I thought I’d like to try it loose … Ped manual says it’s ok but says to fill the chamber … but I hear it doesn’t matter … seems like spillage could be an issue but I have little vials that fit right in the chamber …

    Sharps with loose powder

Phil , thanks for your response . I really don’t want to fill the empty chamber with powder and my understanding is that this is fine but I’d love some first hand information. I’m very experienced with using paper cartridges ( Hahn tubes) but just wanted to try this. I’ve used Hahn tubes...

    Sharps with loose powder

I’ve used Hahn tubes with a sharps carbine until now but I wanted to try loose powder. I’d like to hear from those who have done it. I will use the same bullet I use in the tubes. Lube and seat it… Then add some powder . I have a 55 grn spout that pours 45 grn 1-1/2F by weight. I’m not...

    Revolver match cleaning

Thanks a lot for your advice … btw I’ve been using beeswax/olive oil over the ball rather than lubed wads lately … with the ball very close to the barrel .. seems good … Colt seems to like this lube style better than the Remmy however …binding cylinder starts after a couple cylinders … all fun...

    Revolver match cleaning

I load that way as well … I got the powderinc loader .. it has a collar so you can apply the same pressure on each chamber if desired … I have a Pedersoli Remington that seems very accurate when clean ….I’ve been using 25 gr swiss 3F and 10 gr cream of wheat with a .454 hornady ball .. I’m...

    Revolver match cleaning

I just realized what MT meant …empty 😀… so after each cylinder is what can be done …. Thanks

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

FYI .. the topic got me back to the range with the Ped Remmy . It really is fun . It is very accurate if clean but does fall off quickly it seems . At any rate the conversation inspired me to take my time and see what I can do with it. To be fair , I’ll have to try the same routine with ubertis...

    Revolver match cleaning

What cleaning routine do revolver match shooter’s follow ? After each cylinder .. after each shot …,after the match ? I’ve noticed the first few shots with a Remington or colt revolver using .454 round balls seem the most accurate …

I think I read this description somewhere , maybe regarding tuning a Pietta , because I remember the D face in the diagram being the one that controls where the bolt hits on the cylinder . As I said, I think you brought up a good topic about the timing of the bolt interaction with the cylinder.

Just joking .. I usually find what you say as very helpful..

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

He asked for experiences with a Pedersoli Remington & I assume having one is an experience. He sure didn’t ask about short arbors on Colts 😀

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

The bolt did not retract properly in the condition I got it. At half cock the bolt was still a bit up and I had to ease off the screw that holds the bolt spring to make it retract sufficiently. The Pedersoli rep told me not to use the gun with that bolt and ordered me another even though it...
