    Age Range of BP shooters

Pushing 40 now, but what really got me interested in my late 30's was BP revolvers. I love the tinkering involved in tuning one. A few YouTubers had videos that showed me how easy it is to actually get into shooting BP, which I had always (incorrectly) assumed was a steep learning curve. Make...

Do Slixshot nipples lessen cap jams in Colt style C&B?

Smokey has an excellent point. I put modified 51 mainsprings in both of my pocket colts (police and navy). You can increase the spring pressure a little in full-size revolvers by adding a washer or two under the mainspring. Reducing hammer bounce greatly reduces the chance of cap fragments...

    Paper Cartridge Longevity

I use RAW rolling papers and my rounds have lasted over a year with no issues. I use a beeswax and olive oil mix on the outside of the ball to prevent the line from leeching into the paper. Just keep the rounds away from moisture and you'll be fine.

Do Slixshot nipples lessen cap jams in Colt style C&B?

Slix shots and deburring/smoothing the hammer face have worked well for me. Still get an occasional jam, but the guns were almost unshootable before I made those changes.

    Cap shortage profiteering...

I see it as nothing more than a physical stock market, which is also insane these days. The folks who really get screwed are the ones just getting into shooting, whether it's modern or smokey firearms. The saddest part is trying to find seasonal ammo. I'm looking for heavi shot turkey loads...

    Why Dawn Dish detergent

You can mix it with epsom salt and water for a darn good weed killer. Or in high concentrations with salt and water it makes a "super quench" mix for hardening mild steel (as much as possible anyway). Good old Dawn!

    Ridiculous Cap Pricing

That's awesome, I just my Sharpshooters cap maker yesterday and popped out about 30 caps to experiment with. Next step: prime them without losing fingers...

    Yes or No on tacks

Do some in a scrap piece of wood first, then remove and try to repair the damage. Not worth it on a pretty piece of lumber.

    Paper cartridge and lubed wads

I tried using the wonder wads between the powder and ball on my .36 paper cartridges. I noticed that the lube appeared to leach out to the paper and probably onto the powder as well. I've since started melting a beeswax/olive oil blend onto the back of the ball where it meets the paper. That...

Hi everyone! I'm assuming that most of you like to tinker with your boomsticks as much as I do, and probably have a box o' parts tucked in a corner somewhere from your tinkering endeavors. I'm hoping to find any of the following items: Pieta 1851 Navy steel frame and/or extra barrels...
