    NEED SOME ACCURACY HELP

Inconsistent lock time and getting fliers ever so often. I’d pay attention to your hold over once you pull the trigger.

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

54cal flinter, 530 ball, 010 patch soaking wet with windshield washer fluid (the cheap blue stuff). Load powder, corn meal, patched ball. It works for me. I had to hammer a 530 ball with 015 patch so I tried 010 and it loads smoothly, not loose. I bench rest tested accuracy using 015 and...

Geting pan flash but not reliable ignition

I load with 3f in my 54cal flintlock and prime with 4f. During woods walks when I have a pan flash I will feed some 4f through the touch hole with my pick. Doesn’t take much.

Pillow ticking , same both sides ?

Coarse textured side cleans the barrel during loading, whereas fine textured side will polish. Don’t worry about knowing which side is coarse or fine, alternate sides when loading using the Flip It method.

Geting pan flash but not reliable ignition

At times I will use my vent pick to feed a few grains of 4f into and through the flash hole. My main charge is 3f and I prime with 4f.

    mink oil from TOTW

TOTW Mink Oil works as a patch lube. I pre-lubed a bunch of patches. After sitting in a container for a while they smelled rancid. The container was not air tight. Since then I have switched to using cheap blue windshield washing fluid. Pre-lubing is easy: In water tight container add...

Corn meal - At our last muzzle loading trap shoot one said he was using corn meal instead of cushion wads. It seemed to work.

For my 54cal rifle I use a 9mm pistol brass casing as my measure. I fasten a handle onto the casing.

I load corn meal on top of powder in my rifle. Never had an ignition problem.

what do you use when swabbing between shots?

I use windshield wash fluid (the cheap stuff) as patch lube. I carry a container of soaking wet patches for PRB loading. My loading jag is also a patch jag. When loading gets a bit rough I use a wet patch with windshield fluid to swab the barrel. The stuff evaporates. I’ve never had an ignition...

    The Art of Patches.

For me the best method to determine the best patch thickness is performed at a range with a bench rest. I use a .530 RB in my 54. I keep my patch lube consistent and vary the patch thickness Shoot several groupings for each patch thickness. I discovered that a .010 patch was consistently...

Do i need a custom flintlock rifle??

When I finally save up enough for a “quality” lock, barrel, trigger, stock flint lock I deciding between Kibler vs Chambers kit. There is a flintlock builder close by and I asked him which kit he would like to work with. He smiled and pulled a “quality” rifle off a rack stating it is for sale...
