    French black powder

Thanks. Due to the Uk powder storage requirements I have had to open the bottle and decant into a suitable one for storage. I found the powder to be extremely coarse. and granular. Tried a couple of low power loads in my 1835 double 16 gauge percussion. 60 grains and 25gram of shot. Works a...

    French black powder

Hi, I have been gifted here in the Uk a 500gram flask of French black powder. The plastic flask is blue in colour and sealed . It appears to be quite old. Can anyone tell me what grade of powder it might contain please? Printed on the flask is NSPE POUDRE NOIRE DE CHASSE No other information...

    Let’s see them hunting knives

We Brits are not to be trusted outside with sharp pointy things with fixed blades without a very very good reason . So here's a couple I made for a bear hunter friend in Canada. Stacked Birchbark handles and Buffalo horn.

Crazy for wanting a percussion smooth bore?

Never mind my wants or the stupid British gun laws. Just let me thank our honoured guest for the many hours of pleasure He and his crew have given an old Brit Thank you mister Hickok.

Crazy for wanting a percussion smooth bore?

Here in the good old UK I too am on the lookout for such a gun. We have strange very restrictive gun licencing laws which means as I do not have suitable land available I may not have a firearms licence which I would need for a rifle. BUT I may keep and shoot a black powder percussion smoothbore...

If FedEx stops delivering Black Powder…

If they do you will end up with the situation we have in the UK. No -one will deliver and fewer and fewer stocking it too but at least it's only a 75 mile ride each way for me to collect.

    Best oil for rust prevention

Yes Mr Fish it is a bit pricey. The very best products usually are! But it does work. I have done simple none technical tests on most products available over here and ACF 50 beats them all. I dont quite understand "dissolving salt" but I do read that bikers claim one application to the...

    Best oil for rust prevention

You guys over the big pond dont seem to be able to buy it but here in the UK we have ACF50. A rust and corrosion inhibitor designed by the military to keep carrier borne aircraft free of these. I rust blue/black unmentionable barrels and if ACF has been used it's almost impossible to de-grease...

    DECEASED ASHES

Hi I am sure this has been asked before but here goes. A request has been made on a forum, a guy has passed away and his wish was that at least some of his ashes be shot as a volley with as many 12g BP muzzle loaders as can be mustered.. What would you guys recommend as a BP load FFG and what...

What can I use to increase moisture resistance of my stock?

If you add a drop of Terebine driers to this mix you have as you have said the old English gunstock finish. Good for leather too.

What can I use to increase moisture resistance of my stock?

Hi I just watched the Larry Potterfield video and fell out with his advice when he says he likes to use a wax specifically designed for guns such as REN wax. "It's not" you can of course use it on guns as they do in museums but it was not designed for guns. it is not a good rust proofer either...
