    Underhammer lock designs/diagrams?

Thank you Hawkeye I appreciate it

    Underhammer lock designs/diagrams?

Does anyone have any diagrams or models of an underhammer lock? I am working on a cheap squirrel blaster and I want to design as simple a lock as possible completely homemade. From what I've read, the underhammer is an easy lock to make with few moving parts. Also, I have little experience in...

    DIY Side Hammer lock?

Thank you for the help Mike, would an underhammer be simpler to make? I am 16 and my workshop has a decent amount of tools (I have already built a black iron pipe "apocalypse" muzzleloader just to see if I could do it) and I have made a very simple lock copied from a Russian guy who made his own...

    DIY Side Hammer lock?

Has anyone created a completely homemade side Hammer lock, and do they have any pictures/diagrams? All of the diagrams I have seen do not do a great job (or I might not be the brightest candle in the camp). Also, what are the benefits of a side Hammer vs a normal percussion lock? I have bought...

4130/4140 Chromoly pipe for a muzzleloader barrel?

Thank you for all of your advice Hawkeye. I am 16 and I have a long life ahead of me that I don't want to risk over making a handheld pipe bomb. I have purchased a 12 gauge barrel, a tap and a breech plug and Im going to make a safe barrel soon. I value my life and appendages more than saving $50.

Breech Plug for 12 gauge shotgun shell barrel

Problem is solved, I have bought a tap and a breech plug and I am going to properly install it into the shotgun barrel breech soon. After much contemplation and some funny but extremely helpful responses, I'm not going to act like a Kenyan poacher in his hut making guns that walk the like...

4130/4140 Chromoly pipe for a muzzleloader barrel?

Does anyone with more knowledge of steel and pressures know if a 4130 or 4140 Chromoly pipe can be used for a gun barrel? I am steering clear of black iron pipe after the advice I received earlier on here, but I have heard many people use Chromoly pipe as it is the same steel used in...

Breech Plug for 12 gauge shotgun shell barrel

The only barrels I've seen are around $150 and if I have a gunsmith install a breech plug on a $30 barrel I have $100 max into the gun because I will make everything else myself

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Wow, this is a far cry from my horrible looking welds from a 89$ harbor freight flux welder. I am definitely going to a gunsmith

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Thank you all for the advice, and while I appreciate the jest from some, I understand that I was not thinking this through. I will be much safer in my future endeavors. For now, I'm putting down the welder and the drill and going to shoot my NOT COBBLED TOGETHER muzzleloaders 😂 I will continue...

Wow ok I know I said tell me if this was a bad idea, but point taken everyone 😂

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Thank you, I kind of knew it was a bad Idea but I wanted to gauge how bad or if it was a common practice in the community. Guess not! I will take the barrel to a gunsmith and have him fit a safe breech plug.

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Wow, that is a horrible tragedy and I am so sorry you have to carry that with you. I will be extremely cautious about this endeavor and I will not cut corners. I might even just give up on the idea because a loss of limbs or life is so unimaginably awful. Thank you for sharing.

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Thank you again, I have seen people make slam fire shotguns with the same black iron pipe but I have also heard horror stories of homemade guns exploding. I want to have a future 😂 I will contact a gunsmith and see if I can have a breech plug added to the 12 gauge barrel. Would it be cheaper to...

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. I will contact a gunsmith and have him do it for me. Also, my welding skills are quite bad.

Breech Plug for 12 gauge shotgun shell barrel

I am planning a new "scrap yard" muzzleloader, and I am going to buy a Numrich 12 gauge barrel blank and use it for the barrel. I plan on using this because I do not have to worry about it blowing up (as black iron pipe barrels can) and leaving me fingerless. I have created a simple percussion...

DIY Breech Plug for a 12 Gauge smokeless single shot barrel

Here was the pistol I made, it is not done and it is very crude and I will never fire it in my hands, but I will trust a 12 gauge barrel to not explode on me.
