Your most 'interesting' muzzleloader transaction ?

I recently bought a rifle from a guy who described it as "really nice" and "appears to have been shot every little." The pictures he sent didn't show anything that gave me serious concern (pictures lie). We exchanged several emails and I told him I wanted the rifle and would send payment. The...

How often do you run into other muzzle loader hunters?

Agreed. When I moved to Texas I was surprised by what passes for hunting. I believe it came out of necessity; every acre of land has someone's fence around it. You have to pay to hunt that land and follow the landowner's rules. Landowners try to put as many hunters on their land as possible. So...

    Help with stuck bullet

The puller you have pictured is a complete, absolute, unequivocal, without equal piece of garbage. You will never get the bullet out using one of those. I know from experience. The recommended puller from TOTW will work, but it won't be easy. Just follow the instructions Appalachian Hunter gave...

    SOLD Ball Bag

AGREED! I bought a ball bag from Cutfingers and can say the quality of his work is outstanding and well worth the investment. I need one that can accommodate .54 cal. and one for .50 ca.l R/B...

    Loading 5?or loading 6?

Are you planning on carrying your revolvers, match shooting or just plinking at the range? I shoot my revolvers at the range exclusively. I never carry them, and never compete. I load all six chambers, and then discharge all six more or less immediately. For me, the "safety pin" is superfluous.

How often do you run into other muzzle loader hunters?

Never have in my part of Texas. But public land suitable for stalking deer in my area is virtually nonexistent. The M.O. of hunters here is to get onto a lease and hunt from a stand/blind/tripod/deer box, within sight of a deer feeder. In that situation, if you tried to stalk deer you'd likely...

    Making friends at the range

I'm gonna have to take a page out of Shooter1's playbook and offer the girls a chance to shoot the flinchlock. It's hot here most of the year and women in my area tend to wear yoga pants to the range...I like yoga pants.

    Making friends at the range

The people I spent the most time talking to this past weekend were a guy and his girlfriend who were shooting a bolt gun with handloads. They were genuinely interested and curious. I had fun talking with them. I also talked to a guy who was into collecting old military bolt guns. It turned out...

    Making friends at the range

Every time I go to the range with a flintlock I get asked about BP. Last weekend, I was shooting my SMR and had a number of people ask about the rifle. The most common question was, "Why shoot a flintlock?" My answer was simple, "It's a different skill set." I like fielding questions about BP...

    Prime with 3 or 4F

I tend to think over thinking this topic is a total, complete, absolute, unadulterated, and utter waste of time. 3Fs down the barrel, 3Fs in the pan. Pull the trigger, the damn thing goes KA-POW...and holes appear in the target at or about where I aimed. That's my MO. You do you.
