Do you disassemble fully to clean every shooting session?

I forgot in my excitement to add any lube at all to my revolver when I went to the range. I forget twice actually. I noticed a huge difference in how fast the action got crunchy! I wonder how many people do a complete disassemble of their 1851 after every single shooting session. I'll be...

The brass framed revolvers lifespan and help me decide on a new purchase.

So I am thinking of picking up another revolver but I really like my 1851 Brass in .44. So much so that I wonder if I should just buy one in steel if I plan on shooting it a lot. I don't care about running "hotter" loads I use 12 grain of 2ff and I love the way it handles and the accuracy at...

    Not really a paper cartridge

So I am not a very patient person. That said I took a shot at paper cartridges without the over priced tapered dowl and drilled block of wood. I decided to give up on making the cartridge with the ball. I did however come up with the items pictured below. Basically a cigarette paper with my...

Quick question about homemade bore butter consistency.

High gentleman quick question about butter consistency I am making my own butter. It's a simple mix of Olive oil and beeswax. I'm making in small batches to play with the consistency and the melting point. I think the best I've gotten is ChapStick like consistency is that what we're going for?

    Wooden mini bb cannon

I have wanted one of these mini bb cannon you find on eBay or Amazon. Then it got me thinking I wonder if wood can withstand the small charge. I did some research and that is where I confirmed my suspicion. Cannons were made from wood at one point. They were made of wood and reinforced with...

    Tasty tasty Hardtack?!

To say I love food would be an understatement. I love the food of many countries it’s one of the things that’s made this country so great! So to no surprise to me my love of food and history intersect again. My earliest recollection of this is when I purchased a biblical times cookbook as a...

Much awaited Pietta Colt 1851 Navy Brass arrives!

It's here! Overall I'm very pleased. Have a couple questions and comments though... The bore. The bore of this gun is blued. First gun I have ever owned that has a blued bore. And I've never heard that on the unboxing videos and YouTube so just wanted to mention it. Also the muzzle end is not...

    Molybdenum grease bore lube?

I wondering if it is possible to use moly grease as a type of bore butter for patches and or more importantly to cover the ends of the cylinder on an1851 navy to avoid chain fire like they do with bore butter. moly is a metal on metal grease and I like it’s properties. It is Firm and doesn’t melt.

Hi new to forum just purchased an 1851 brass framed “confederate” .44 cal revolver. I am very interested about all historical firearms. I look forward to learning more about this firearm and others of the period.
