WANTED .54 Blueridge or Lyman "Hunter" replacement barrel.

Anyone know where a .54 cal pedersoli blueridge or Frontier are in stock? I prefer to have a rocklock with slow twist, or maybe a "Hunter" replacement barrel. Since it is difficult for me to trace down my deer after I shoot them, I decided to switch to a .54 (from a .50) round ball/ or a heavy...

    loose dovetail solution

I bought a set of Lyman hunting sights a little less than a year ago. I really love these sights because the front bead sight completely fills the rear sights circler notch. I shot very well with it until I noticed they kept moving. I tried all of the suggestions from you fellows on this forum...

90 grains 3f, 1 over shot card, 1/2 of a 1/2 inch lubed fiber wad, 1 over shot card, 30- #3 buck (.25 caliber), and 1 more over shot card. Shot her running at 50 paces, around 40 yards, in front our beagle hounds. It was an awesome chase!

I am considering purchasing a .45 cal mold (already got a .50) LEE REAL for my T/C Hawken. I only need a 100 to 125 yard deer gun. And I will hire someone to tap it for a scope. It's a 1:48 twist. "Or" I am considering purchasing another production gun if you guys think a !:32 or a !:24 twist...

    Rendezvous results

I came in 1st place in the Dale Merritt Aggregate. I came in 2nd place in the Main aggregate, and 3rd in the pistol match. There were only 3 pistol shooters so I don't feel anything good about the award. I won a historically correct all wooden water canteen for coming in 2nd place in the Main...

Side by side 00 buckshot success

80 grains 2f Goex, two nitro cards, one 1/2" lubed fiber wad, twelve 00 buck, 1/2" lubed fiber wad. Both barrels (improved & modified) shot right decent "vitals shots" groups at 30 and 40 yards. I had 80% of the shot to hit within a 30 inch circle and 5 or 6 of them to be vital hits. I believe I...

Big river buck was missed twice?

Last Saturday started our muzzle loading season. I was getting ready to leave my spot when a very large river buck stepped out to scrub his small pine trees, and scrap the ground. I previously loaded with a moist patch (rather than mink oil) by mistake which caused my gun to hang fire. He was at...

    Nipple issue resolved guys!

After I drilled the flash hole out to 1/16th and made them like the "split fire" nipples, I've not had any misfires, not blow back. Thanks for all the advise!

    I've caught Canadian geese fever!

I've never got into waterfowl, but after watching 12 Canadian geese (come a long distance in this very, very large field) come withing 25 yards of me, I've been re-visioning the experience with amazement and awe. I really believe my electric dove Mojo and 4 non-electric decoys lured them into my...

Side by side right trigger issue

The pin that goes between the two triggers popped lose again this morning on my hunt. I got home and decided to measure the pin and replace it with a longer one. I still cannot figure out why they put such a short pin in at the factory. Anyways, I had a drill bit that measured 2 mm like the pin...

The Muzzleloading Shotgun, by V.M. Starr

I like "skychiefs load" and reasoning. I also like the small book I just read by V.M. Starr. I will experiment with both mens' methods, keep my targets, record exactly what I did-range-etc., and make a final decision after a very long spell of pondering about the pro's and con's about each. No...

    Must be more careful

I almost bit the pipe yesterday. I went dove hunting with a long sleeve camo shirt, pants, and leather snake guards around my legs. I wouldn't know if a snake bites me, unless I saw him/her do it. Anyways, it got pretty hot and the wind died. I sat out there from 2 till 5 and only saw around ten...

I'm so depressed with new gun

I went out to pattern my Pedersoli. I fired one shot from my cylinder bore then fired my modified. Now the improved trigger will not go into half-cock nor full-cock position? Any advice would be highly appreciated! I wish I lived near one of you guys that know how to work on these guns, but I do...

    Pattern board?

I've seen pictures of pattern boards. What are they constructed of? I just use paper myself, but was just wondering about the pattern board I saw. It appears to be covered in some type of cement or plaster? I'm assuming they spread over the previous shot with some type of plaster/cement then...
