    C.G. Fotou Rifle

I picked up a beautiful target rifle at the last local gun show. The only markings are "C.G. Fotou" on the lock. The only thing I found on line was a bullet mold with that name. Perhaps he also made locks or this may have been a complete gun by him. Anyone heard of him. It is a beautifully made gun.

Need Better Photo of Classic Patchbox

Life would be much easier if I were artistic. In Merrill Lindsay's "The Kentucky Rifle" #12 a Jacob Kuntz of Lehigh swivel gun has a particlarly magnificent patchbox. Unfortunately, it is a really crummy photo. There HAS to be a better photo somewhere out there of this magnificent piece. I...

    Rear Sight Question

I have most of my parts on hand but not a rear site. In looking throughWeil's Contemporary Makers Of Muzzle Loading Firearms, Bivins rear sight is SO cool in both artistic design and pragmatism with fixed blade and one pop-up blade for longer range. Does anyone make anything like this? Pete

    Flint Questions

How do you choose the width of the flint? Should it match the frizzen width? The ones available locally are simply sliced and work better after a couple hits on the frizzen which seem to self chip them. Is it best to chip teeth on them? I am a stone worker and have all kinds of grinding and...

    Frontier Carving Shoppe, Lebanon, Pa

Are they still in business? Many years ago you could get about any style stock there, Lebanon, Lancaster, Bedford, etc. If they are gone, who does that now?

    "Platinum" touch hole liner plugs

My old English flinter pistols mostly all had these liner plugs. Are any available today (stainless, I imagine)?

    Bending tang?

OK, My first M/L. I have made maybe 20 modern rifle/shotgun stocks but never any metal work. The stock is inlet for barrel and lock. Perfect so far. The tang is timed to the barrel. The tang is straight and I need to curve it. How do I do that and not soften the threads? Second question, when it...

Procrastination to come to an end?

You guys with all these great hints are getting to me. I have decided to start my Lancaster project. It is a 45 cal 13/16" with top grade components. I got the cut out stock from Frontier Carving Shoppe. I won't say I am a bit late to start but it was my friend, William Buchelle who got me...

    Secret Organic Stain Formula

I must admit to accidentally finding one of the better maple stain formulas. One of my evil Arabian stallions pulled a thick maple gunstock plank out of the barn and over to my manuer pile which was quickly covered in manuer and horse pee all Winter. When tractoring the pile to the compost pile...

    The Best Maple Stain

I'll give you my choice. First, properly prepare the wood with finish sanding. Now brew 5 teabags in one cup for extremely strong tea (tannic acid). Prepare an enclosed wooden or cardboard box with plastic or glass viewing window. Wipe the stock down profusely with the strong tea. Put...

    Original Flintlock by Ellis Thomas

I finally saw this gun and it was made FOR Robert Woods by Thomas. It is marked with a couple brass inserts into the barrel. No other markings on the exterior. Very nice looking lock with no exterior markings. No patchbox, but about 15 inserts. No carvings. The name was supposed to be in the...

I won't see it until tomorrow so cannot give a description but has anyone heard of this maker?

    Lance point identification

Intersting lance point found. It is very high quality and has three stampings on it. It has MONTR at one point and also a stamping I cannot identify...like a proof mark. The third stamping is a capital "B" with a leg coming out from the center of the "B" going left then straight down. It looks...
