    T/C FireStorm Flintlock Stainless .50cal 26"barrel

You might try this, it works well for me: 85 grains Goex 3F, .015 wonder lubed pillow ticking patch with .490 round ball, 4F in the pan.

Agreed! Plus it is a whole lot more fun than sitting in front of a computer.

TC 56 cal smooth bore loads

I use a 15mm arch punch and 1/8” Durafelt or grey cardboard similar to legal pad backing. I’ve had good luck with ¾ oz. loads of #9 for clay targets and #5 for squirrel. I use an equal volume of FFg. 2 wads between powder and shot and 1 over.

12 Ga.New Englander choke tube for turkeys?

Checking my loading notes for the New Englander: I use an HS Strut Undertaker Turkey choke with an ID of .665. Wads are 2 lightly oiled felt over powder, one felt overshot. Powder is 90 gr. 2f, shot is 1 3/8 oz #5 chilled lead. I don’t remove the tube to load. One of the reasons that I like...

    New Pedersoli SxS 12 Gauge

Welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of muzzleloading shotguns. I don’t think a plastic shot cup would be required for nickel plated and would be a pain to load one through the full choke. When I have used nickel, I used a shot cup but that is mostly personal preference and results at...

    Loading shot in my smoothbore

My favorite squirrel load is ¾ oz #5 chilled lead over an equal volume of FFg powder. Two oiled felt wads between shot and powder with one overshot.

    Triple 7 vs Pyrodex ignition

I think a big part of the attraction of smoothbores in their versatility. For example, shot for small to medium game and single ball for larger targets. Following the philosophy of versatility, why not develop effective loads for whatever components you can get your hands on? Pyro, T7 or holy...

    Triple 7 vs Pyrodex ignition

I use vented #11 nipples (T/C Hot Shot or Uncle Mikes) and have not seen any problems with ignition with either Pyro or T7. In one gun, the standard nipple was almost un-usable with anything but black. Changed to the vented and no problems. (Happy Birthday!!!)

    Shot size for smooth bore

I like #5's in my 56 for squirrel. I use ¾ oz. loads with equal volume of FFg separated by lightly oiled felt wads. Most shots are less than 25 yards and rarely leaves any shot in the meat. Try here for shot: RotoMetals shot page

    TC Firestorm for Christmas

I never had a problem with the coned breech plug except when shooting ultra light loads. 20 gr. loads seat the ball on the point of the cone instead of the powder. Would not shoot anything lighter because of air gap concerns. Also, don't be stingy with grease on the plug and vent liner when...

    Craptastic first day with flintlock

I have a CO2 discharger with a needle to fit a flintlock vent. Would probably be my first attempt. Link to one similar to mine nice tool to have in hunting camp.

    Be Aware

Laws are written by lawyers whose thought process is mostly governed by emotion. For the most part, logic escapes them. Glad your case was judged fairly. Just one comment on the letter of the law; if the rule is .40 diameter then by the standards for precision of linear measures any measured...

ffg or fffg powder in a ROA

30g of Goex FFFg under a 250g Lee REAL cast from pure lead. No wad or filler but I do grease like a RB. Runs just under 900 fps. Accurate load but shoots above poa with factory sights. Can’t give account of terminal effect, no willing “volunteers” when I have carried that load in the field.

    Shoulder shots?

Never intentionally aimed for shoulder or high shoulder area. General load behind a 490 PRB is 90g FFg or 80g FFFg. My goal is double lung but in most cases I end up with some shoulder damage because one foreleg will be in the back position and I clip it. In a couple of circumstances I have...

    October 2013 Hollow-Tween Shoot

The target that Dutch Schoultz supplies with the "Black Powder Rifle Accuracy System" is a 3" black circle. The 10 ring is 1". His target template has 5 bulls with one being in the center of the paper. That 10 ring is pretty elusive at 25 yds. offhand.

    squirrels once more

Sounds like a grand adventure. Sorry to hear of you plight with the yellow jackets. Glad you recovered enough to get back out. Seriously do not like them things. Hit a nest with a bush hog a couple of years ago and could not get the tractor to move fast enough to get away. Seems like I hear...
