    Tried and true finished cherry

Here is my SMR in cherry i finished in 2020. I only used Tried and True and let it darken naturally. The first 2 pictures are right after i finished it. The picture with the deer is from last November. Sorry i don't have a recent close up. I really like the Tried and True finish but it is easy...

    Made meat today

Finally connected with my Kibler SMR this morning. This season hasn't been the best i missed a nice buck on opening day then missed another doe a few days later. I was glad to finally see i can still shoot. She was with a group of 6 other does that came right through right a sunrise. Good way to...

    Show me your cherry

Here is my Kibler SMR in cherry. This is my first rifle build but i have used a lot of cherry in furniture and other projects and love the way it works and looks. The finish is Tried and True oil. I like to let the cherry age naturally.

Rendered deer fat as patch lube

I rendered some down this fall from my doe. It comes out very white and hard when cooled. I mixed up a batch of lube 2:1 tallow and vegetable oil. It seems to work pretty well. It is still hard but you can easily get a small amount on a patch by just swiping it. Don't know how it will do in...

Just ordered a Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle! Please post pics of yours.

Jack the cherry will darken and already has some. I just used an oil finish on the wood as i love the way cherry ages over time. As for the metal i used Kibler's brass darkening solution but it tended to rub off more then i expected. Most of what you see is the start of natural patina.

    Squirrel Season 2020

Had a beautiful morning out. I haven't been out in several weeks and with the cool temps last night i knew i had to spend some time in the woods. As i was checking and improving a natural ground blind i plan to hunt out of i see my first bit of movement in the tree tops. I work my way over and...

    Squirrel Season 2020

Our squirrel season started on August 15. For once that fell on a weekend so i was able to be out in the woods on opening day. I have been out several times since but didn't connect until this morning. First blood drawn with the new rifle. Great morning to be out.

.45 caliber RB enough for deer?

I've hunted deer for years with a 45 cal and never had a problem. I shoot 50 grains of 3F and rarely does the ball not go all the way through. Actually last years buck was the first time I've ever recovered a ball from a deer. It was stuck in the hide on the far side. Most of the shots are under...

    First target with new rifle

This is 25 yards off hand. We don't have many targets we shoot off rests at our club. My load is 50 grains of FFF with .445 and .024 pillow ticking. When i was working up a load the first 3 shots out of the rifle were touching. I've been really impressed with this gun. If you are thinking about...

    First target with new rifle

Well had my first shoot with my new Kibler rifle. Up until today I've shot it at home to work up a load. This was the first target of four. This is also my first 50 ever. I pretty proud of that and i'm very pleased with how the rifle shoots. The other 3 targets weren't as good but that was on...
