    Rifle to Smoothie

I am full of bad ideas. Maybe this is one. How much safety margin is built into the barrels on Traditions (or other common low cost importers) guns? Could you bore one of those .50s out to make it a smooth bore? Would doing so be a more cost effective way to get a fowler? Money is tight...

    Prime with 3 or 4F

The other day at the range I was getting a lot of flash in the pans. It was getting late in a long day at the range and I was tired. I normally prime with 4F, but my priming measure was out, so I just uest the 3F that is my main charge. I noticed more sure ignition. Is this a thing or...

    Locktime visualized

Durring my morning meal I can across this little video. I don't know if his explanation of what is going on is spot on, but watch through to the end where he makes some interesting statements on flinching. The man is a competent gunsmith and historian, but I am more familiar with his work...

    Pandemic lube

Many lube and cleaner recipes have rubbing alcohol in them. Unfortunately people are panicking in the US and stores do not have rubbing alcohol in them. Where I live, I can't even buy liqueur as vodka or Everclear could fill in. What I can buy is Denatured Alcohol, at the hardware store. It...

    Devolving a load

So I am trying to find the best load for my Gun. I have got: 2 ball sizes (0.490 & 0.495) 2 patch thicknesses (0.010 & 0.015) And I know that I want the charge somewhere between 70 & 100 gr and I only use 5 gr increments. That is 28 permutations. Patch lube is the same, and using the...

    Cherokee or Senena

What do I have here? Previously I said it was a Crockett, because it is not my gun, but my Significant other's. So I rarely take it to the range, and they rarely come with me. I took it out the other day and saw that it was a Cherokee.... Then I was reading about them in another thread and...

    Un-patched balls ruin your barrel.

Do they? Is there an issue with gas cutting? Assuming a normal powder charge, and a decent ball fit, dose not patching your ball wreck your gun? Is it ok in a smooth bore but disaster in a rifle? Other way around?
