Sounds like I should move there.

    BP supplies at Wal Mart

I am not so sure you are. In some cases you are, but in others you aren't. I just don't know what side of that caps fall. I used to be a vendor for Walmart, along with other retailers. With their purchasing power, WM uniquely sets the price that they will buy your products. They tell you...

    BP supplies at Wal Mart

Walmart is pro making money. Thinking they are anti or pro anything else is just silly. So is thinking they are your ally in anything, other than the exchange of money for products.

    Traditions Kentucky finally arrived

Now I clean after every shot. Really it takes less overall time because I can just use one patch, both sides. Shoot. Clean (damp patch, down&back, flip, down&back) Load Shoot Consistent process every time. Before (and sometimes still), I would shoot multiple before cleaning, but cleaning...

Why are shoulder stocks so popular on the replica 1860 Army and 3rd Model Dragoons?

Holy manure, they did. Lol. Here is a video on it and touching on stocks in general.

But the majority of time isn't spent galloping. Why issue mess kits? Have you ever tried eating beans while galloping on a horse? Even drinking from a canteen while at the trot is difficult (without bashing your teeth in). Still, it is handy to have a canteen.

    BP supplies at Wal Mart

I avoid Walmart whenever I can, for other reasons than 2A. Still, sometimes I shop there. We get stuff where we get stuff. No big retailer is your friend. It is convenient that walmart is always open.

    Cannon ball skip??

Ah so that's also when the she went downhill? Instead of "humm maybe we should use a small part of our huge budget to do this at a safer place," they went with, let's do less interesting stuff."

I agree more effort = more fun. I have pretty much given up cartridge guns as "easy mode".

    Hunting with 10 gauge

IDK but one advantage of muzzleloaders is that you can Taylor the load to what you are doing. A 10 Gage unmentionable would be a lot of squirrel or rabbit, especially with a choke. A 10 cylinder bore, with a light powder load, may be great for rabbits, and other fast moving game.

Ok everyone..... He is at the range now (hopefully). What's the odds that he will need to pull a dry ball by the end of the day? Jokingly serious, I think my first two range days ended with me needing to pull a ball. One of those was a hard end because I stripped out the ball not knowing...

I stalk the local pawn shops. Occasionally you land on a great finds like that! How long did it take you to sand it down?

    Traditions Kentucky finally arrived

I have a Traditions PA flintlock, and love it. It is my first (and only so far) muzzleloader, and was a gift from my partner. I had so much fun with it that I soon got her a muzzleloader too :-) Anyway, one important thing to know is that the forward screw that holds the lock in place also...

I didn't even think about a breech plug issue.

    Rifle to Smoothie

I wouldn't modify my current gun. It has sentimental value to me. I was thinking of picking up.a traditions build kit for $350, and modifying that. I haven't seen any smoothbore kit for that low. Maybe I have to keep looking. Money is tight now, so I don't know if I could even spend...

    Pedersoli using Cekote

So maybe there is a classy way to do it. I'd only ever seen kinda gaudi attempts or ones that make guns look like plastic. I guess I have seen some artsy attempts to make a gun look weathered.... Nothing that would look good on a muzzleloader

    Rifle to Smoothie

I am full of bad ideas. Maybe this is one. How much safety margin is built into the barrels on Traditions (or other common low cost importers) guns? Could you bore one of those .50s out to make it a smooth bore? Would doing so be a more cost effective way to get a fowler? Money is tight...

    Pedersoli using Cekote

Just thought about it more. I no longer have any unmentionables with Cerakote on them, or I would post a picture of how it can be worn off. I sold those thing off years ago and never did that process to anything since. Seeing a black powder gun with it would be worse than those flintlocks...

    Pedersoli using Cekote

Well if it holds up there it would probably hold up in a gun barrel. One minute of runtime in a race engine gets more steel on steel contact than a BP rifle sees lead on steel in a lifetime. Even with those engines getting rebuild after every race, there are a lot of revolutions in one race...

    Pedersoli using Cekote

My understanding is that cermachrome is mostly a heat barrier. It is also partly aluminum, so I don't know how well it will hold up in the shooting process
