    Percussion Wheel Gun Accuracy

The old cavalry manuals called for revolver marksmanship training out to 200 yards. When I was attached to the Bundesgrenzschutz, a German paramilitary group in the 1980s, they qualified out to 100 meters with their 9mm P7s.

Thoughts on Patch Boxes - or lack thereof - on the Kentucky Rifle in its Golden Age (and Colonial Age)

I'm thinking about this same issue. Not surprised the majority of folks responding to the OP's thread here either did not, or cannot read his original post and posted something stupid and irrelevant, though.

    kings mountain rifles

Except there were never any Ferguson rifles at King's mountain, that sounds good. Major Ferguson was commanding new troops at King's Mountain, and the Ferguson rifles were taken out of service before then. https://www.obcgs.com/battle-of-kings-mountain/

    Barrel prices!

Where I'm going to is the increasingly popular old man griping on this forum. Muzzleloading is NOT a dying sport. Prices have been stable for the last decade. I think Jim Chambers is still using his 2010 price list, for instance. The OP is bitching about a $15 increase in the midst of...

    Barrel prices!

Used to? Does that imply you no longer have the pickup? There is absolutely nothing preventing you from reaquiring a points ignition vehicle today. Unless, of course, the "good ole days" weren't really that good and you actually prefer modern vehicles. BTW, I still drive older vehicles (1975...

    Barrel prices!

Not to be impolite, but you are full of it. COVID has caused muzzleloading interest to jump through the roof, as folks have more time on their hands. All the makers are jumping through their butts to keep up with demand. The world isn't ending.

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

We have corporate big shots who own teams of horses, mules and old equipment that they have shipped there by semis, and then they fly in on their private jets to dress up in bib overalls and farm the thresherman plots. Anyway. I think the rarity of our hobby will save it.

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

http://www.albertcitythreshermen.com There you go! I don't think any of our family even participates anymore, but they'll take your money to go watch or participate. :)

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

Not to beat a dead horse, but that very dwindling interest and less outdoor opportunities can be flipped to work in our favor. There are folks who seek out weird and extreme pastimes just for their rarity. Our family used to do traditional farming, and it has changed from people looking at us...

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

Dang. All of that I've witnessed in the 18 months since I've decided to do muzzleloading as a hobby again. There are certain Facebook and threads on here I can point to that demonstrates both of those points.

You're good. I got what you were talking about.

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

I'm pulling my kids' car engine, so I had a few more minutes to think on this question. In no way, do we need to make traditional muzzleloading "popular". There is no reason for that, and it ain't going to happen. The question, as written, is the correct one. How do we create more interest...

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

I agree with the need for books/movies that portray muzzle loaders in a positive light. The problem with that is finding the right narrative. I know we aren't supposed to get political, but frankly, the pop culture narrative right now demonizes nearly everything positive done during the...

    Who likes Port wine ?

I'm an equal opportunity drinker, live right in the heart of the American Whiskey belt, and still prefer Scot's Whisky to Bourbon.

    What style rifle?

I have a recent manufacture L&R Manton, and it works "ok". The hammer doesn't clock 100% right, and it rocks a bit while at full cock. Having said that, my next build is a Jim Chambers kit, and I probably won't do an L&R again.

Charlotte, a Jim Chambers Lancaster Build

It's a kit. Excited to see how it arrives. This is my second build.

Charlotte, a Jim Chambers Lancaster Build

Well, I pulled the trigger on an order to Jim Chambers tonight for a .54 Lancaster Rifle with his standard wood, wooden patch box and a small flaw on the buttstock, which I am perfectly fine with. (minus a discount, of course ;) ) They say they can ship it out next week, so I am anxiously...

And? OP got plenty of answers.

    Brass

Gorham's brass and silver polish is the quickest and easiest. It's literally smudge on, wipe off, and brass looks new. But why?

Never owned a gun, but smitten by flintlocks, not sure what to do

A chemist I know told me a slightly different explanation. He stated that when black powder has an air gap, the nice even slow moving flame front expands the entire charge of powder, which then creates multiple flame fronts, which, instead of consuming the powder at a predictable rate, result...
