    CVA Mountain Rifle Questions....

necchi has you covered on the lock. I'll just add... with the appropriate non-permanent Loctite you'll set the screw once and forget about it. FWIW, CVA called the nose cap "pewter-like", not pewter. My early 45 MR is easily the best of the CVA rifles I've owned and will out shoot any of the...

    Proof testing 12 ga

Welcome to the forums. Seems like I read someplace the standard is a double load of powder with single projectile/shot, but I'd suggest that instead you do some researching at the standards organization C.I.P. as a much safer starting place to confirm what the atandards are for proofing black...

    connecticut valley arms

Well, I'm actually a fan of the CVA's that I've owned as all of them served me very well with no problems. But your recall comment is not so in this manufacturers case IMO because they only recalled a small percentage of the inlines - those made in '95-'96. They did not recall any of the...

Maybe so, but stupidity on the part of the manufacturer in shipping guns that are unsafe takes the chance of failure way up.

    connecticut valley arms

Interesting... thanks for the info. Probably why they don't show up in my catalogs that stop at 1989. Other than a Siber pistol from 88/89 and a couple of mid 80's Squirrel rifles I had, all my CVA's have been 1970's vintage. Since CVA was using some Dikar Bergara barrels from at least the...

    The first shot

I don't see a need to bother with a fouling shot for either hunting or shooting primitive matches. They are all I do with my muzzleloaders, and they shoot good enough for both without one. When I shoot competition for score its with modern firearms.

FWIW... in the early 70's CVA BP revolvers, locks and barrels came from Santa Barbara Sistemas head quartered in Madrid. While they have factories in several cities in Spain, none are in Jukar. No "Kentucky Hunter" comes up in any of my old catalogs or wholesale price sheets (1972-1989)...

Where are the TC Seneca rifles?

I'd say you really stole them, especially if they are new in the box. :shocked2: I don't remember ever getting less than $250 each or more for the 3-4 used Seneca's I had and sold quite a few years back, and I got $450 for each of the two Cherokee's I sold the last few years that were...

    CVA .36 muzzle loader

Yep, sounds like a Bobcat and your only luck for a factgory wood stock for it will probably be Deer Creek, or catching one being parted out on FleaBay. Maybe 2-3 years ago or so WalMut was closing them out, and there were quite a few posts by folks who bought them for well under $50. Remember...

Let's see those caplock squirrel rifles!!!

This one would get it done easily on tree rats, but there are none here so it's for predators and varmints. TC Hawken 36 with Navy Arms 4X brass scope.

    connecticut valley arms

It all comes down to opinion as the Ford/Chevy thing suggests. In mine they were a great entry level choice in the 70's & 80's (and still are today). They may have got my attention more back then if I hadn't started with the TC's before CVA got on the wagon. "Older" or earlier is better with...

    Interesting horn

I imagin if you do the extra work to build such a horn it wouldn't be that much more to line the RB chamber with leather or something else to keep it quieter on a trek. The whole concept sounds like more effort to use to me than more traditional ways to carry your RB's, and there's always the...

    Filling a teardrop shaped capper?

Hmmm, maybe I'm missing something here. I've used Ted Cash cappers for a long time, and to me the universal/revolver capper is even easier/faster to load from the tin than his rifle capper. Just dump from the tin and shake it gently to orient the caps. :idunno:

    T/C Hawken serial number question

The TC Hawken was introduced in 1970, not 1974, hence the 25th anniversary model Hawken offered in 1995. With declining sales the number of barrels produced per year has declined radically for quite a few years now (and may have or all but stopped). The Hawken was up to 500,000 serial numbers...

    T/C Hawken serial number question

Closest I'd venture to offer is sometime in the 1980's for that barrel. And that because I doubt TC built a quarter million Hawken barrels the first decade they offered them. But I could easily be wrong as the TC data base I've assembled really doesn't suggest a closer guess. FWIW WA

    lubed patch container?

I wasn't interested in using anything plastic with my BP arms, so mostly used various tins that had been fired in a campfire to make them appear more rustic (burn off all the paint, etc). Used both slip fit and hinged lid tins, but the hinged were easier to use in the field (one handed)...

    No name T/C .36...

TC Seneca's do have 27" barrels - Cherokee's 24", so along with your description it sounds like a Seneca. The 36's for either are in the highest demand from what I've seen, and commonly bring a much higher price that what you paid. Nice find. necchi - yeah, I have one of...

    Safety Glasses

Good reminder for folks - thanks for the picture. But it sort of suggests an example of a product being used for something it may not really be designed for. Safety glasses (like everything else) are not created equal and are not necessiarily shooting glasses. Price doesn't matter when it...
