Testing different size Powders in Flintlock Rifles......

yes. it is done all the time. but if you have 3F , 4f is not that great of a gain. some think it burns faster and easier but if the powders are all at the same level of dryness they burn(ignite) equally. i gave up on 4f as it sucks up moisture so fast in a hunting situation here that it can be a...

    Wobbeling Hammer

in other words Jim, you do it in a proper mechanical way. tapered fits have been the right way for centuries. anyone ever try to separate a dynamo from the engine shaft of a generator? certainly no wobble tolerated there.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

sorry you missed it, but glad i didn't! the wood is stunning. i need to check when it was produced. had to do a little on the entry pipe inlet and the side plate canted the rear lock screw just enough it wouldn't engage. had to slave away for a whole 2 minutes to fix that! sheesh so labor...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

got notified that the mail carrier couldn't fit that wonderful Kibler crate into her jeep for delivery, plus they needed my chicken scratch on their little machine. So me and Lurch drove into town and picked up the Colonial. Lurch has been sanding his woodsrunner for a week. i have the colonial...

    Disaster

thats the normal procedure with a dent at the muzzle, and i know you know what you are doing, but can't help myself , got to give a word of caution. be sure the barrels are secured before rotating with force. i have seen barrels separate from each other with this process. i read the lead and...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

today my cousin's dropped by to get me to weld the draw bar from a wood splitter that broke at the bolt holes. i laid out some long rifle pattern and pictures for them to look at while i welded the part. the welding was a freebee but i got commissions for two rifles! it pays to help folks out...

    New in town…

only time recoil from a muzzleloader got my attention was when i sent a ramrod on top of a ball down range . got a good hit, but i thought the second coming was happening when i touched that sucker off. was comparable to my cousins .50 bmg in a 14 lb rifle.

    Barrel help

some of those Spanish barrels shoot way beyond what they should. build a nice half stock "blanket" gun. something like this. p.s. don't let your wife see it. mine glommed onto this one and that was that.

I have heard that the two gizmo's on each side of the open part are called ears. I have always called them wings because they fly so well!

    Wood grain

character. if it is solid, it adds character. I am inletting a stock just now that has a very solid knot right through the entire lock, forward wrist area. that wood has me sharpening my chisels every 1/8 inch. when finished it should be spectacular.

    New in town…

Welcome from Idaho! Flint locks are really close to Women. just when you think you have them all figured out something from left field smacks you. the learning curve between cap and flint is mostly getting to the point of not noticing the pan flash. shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. each is...

Hello all from Nevada County CA :)

Welcome from a former resident of your neighborhood now living blissfully in Idaho. You still have time to recover from the collecting disease. coming from a person who is in the terminal stages of "collecting".

    Reinforcing the wrist

type of wood? lay of grain? pictures almost required. I have used your method to repair but never as a preventative. almost all the wrist failures i have seen were from a sideways blow. except for the Mortimer i got with usps tire tracks across the crate.

    Flints

Jim Kibler has a good video of sharpening flint. 3 shots is unacceptable. i am on shot 73 with one flint in my SMR. geometry makes a lot of difference. spring tension on the frizzen also matters. I have a large siler that has the softest of falls to the cock and a frizzen you can blow open with...
