    Longhunter a Conservationist?

Again though, Boonesborough was a settlement. The Longhunter was only here for the short summer and returned east with his hides. He didn't care that the people settled or stationed in western Pa had enough game to get them through the winter. He himself didn't eat the majority of what he shot.

    Longhunter a Conservationist?

Wonder if he thought "buckskins" really meant BUCK SKINS? Maybe he was a representative of the Sierra Club? It is the nature of Americans to conquest and exploit everything we can. With gas prices what they are - we are still burning several thousands of gallons of gas and tires each weekend -...

    Longhunter a Conservationist?

Friendly conversation came up at the last rendezvous concerning the eastern Longhunter. I was of the opinion that the Longhunter was, as most of us Americans are even today - the center of the universe. We have killed, trapped, poisened, run off, or displaced to reservations anything that has...

    Source of Canvass????

Very good input. Never thought about drop cloths - and the 12' rolls sound great. My fingers are not looking forward to all those seams again. Never thought about Wal Mart or the hardware stores. I pretty much limited myself to art supply stores - thanks for all the help. I used Canvac from...

    Cast iron cornbread cooking

I never had it in cast iron - sounds good. I do a lot of trekking and cast iron is just one of those items that is WAY too heavy to pack - would there be any way to bake it on a rock or a tin skillet? I've made Jonny Cakes on a rock - same thing?

    Beans and Jerky

At fishing camp, I tried the dried bean and jerky soup. Soaked the dried beans - the 15 bean/variety kind(with dried onion and garlic flakes) and jerky overnight in some beer. I still had to boil the stuff for almost 2 hours in my copper mug and the beans were STILL a bit tough. Did I do...

How many combine camping with hunting?

Sorry I didn't reply earlier - been awhile since I've checked in. The trailer I bought was made by "Carmate" ans is 5 1/2' x 8' - it tows very nice. I bought the smallest A/C I could find and custom fit it in the front. I have a small Coleman Refrigerator that was $60 at WalMArt. My Honda...

    Eastern Indian Ear "Mutilation"

Can you imagine the war hoot that would be produced from snagging that in the brush. I know a woman that ripped her ear ring out by snagging it on her sweater - YIP YIP YIP

    Source of Canvass????

I hand-sewed a Baker Style Lean-to some years back for trekking but made it of heavy duty 14 oz. canvass I bought from Dick Blick Art Supply. Not the light weight choice I had hoped for - and it was expensive. Turned out the lean-to was way too heavy to pack. I am getting the itch to sew again...

    Early morning coffee

Brits drink tea - no blue-blooded "American" colonialist would be caught dead drink from the Kings cup. (I know we DID drink tea but it would be like going to Kentucky and drinking Vodka insteed of Whiskey)

Anyone else finding it hard to locate fire wood for their events?

    slit pouches

Yeah - "NDNZ" is the gangsta/ghetto-rap/straight from da hood version of "indians". It saves you three key strokes. Some people use "NAN" for "North American Native". Kind of like me refering to myself as a "Dog Face" rather than a "North American-Northern European/Anglo Saxon" - it's just...

    German translation for powder horn

Thought of a good verse for a horn flask. Do you know the verse? Proverbs? "Just as a dog returneth to his vommit, so doth the fool to his folly". Not sure if that is the exact quote or not - been awhile since Sunday School.

    German translation for powder horn

Wow - Undertaker - staight from the source AND the verse. No better source than His word. Thank you all. I never realized there where so many dialects of German - just like accents. The PA Dutch even admit to not speaking German.

    German translation for powder horn

Wow, I knew this was the right place to ask such a question. Thanks for all the help. I think this would be an appropriate phrase for a powder horn. What other phrases/proverbs have you all used?

    German translation for powder horn

I would like to scrimshaw the Biblical/Masonic phrase "Where two or more are gathered, there shall I be". Been a number of years since my high school german class and could use some help. What other phrases/proverbs have you all used and why? Should be interesting to discuss
