    Matchlock caliver/musket build

    Mine are all asymmetrical.

    Matchlock caliver/musket build

TobJohn: Mine were built by builders Leonard Day (.72 Snaphaunce), John Buck (.75 and .83 Matchlocks), and Jurgen Kreckle (.72 Matchlock). Best of luck with yours! Looking forward to seeing her finished!

    Matchlock caliver/musket build

TobJohn: Personally I love the fishtail stock. I have a few Matchlocks and a Snaphaunce with that type of stock and I find it handles the recoil very well.

Couple quick pics of my matchlock build....

If you mean Jurgen Kreckel, he is still alive. He retired from gun making years ago and is into photography now. I own one of the last if not the very last Matchlock Musket he ever built.

Getting ready to shoot a matchlock as a newbie

At the range, I just cut a finger length piece of slowmatch and ignite it just before I fire it. This way I usually don't have to worry about the match and just take my time reloading.

    Slow Match Help!

Smokey: I made a video 10 years ago to show how I make slowmatch at home. Slowmatch video

First time shooting a gun valued in the 5 digits lol

I recommend eye protection with a Matchlock or any other pan fired arms. You have no idea how many glasses I've had with burnt pit marks on them.

Matchlocks and more on display at the Gunmakers Fair at Kempton PA.

Ahh ok, that is the old info. I knew Mr. Day didn't like using the internet. I though maybe his sons might have updated to an online contact. It's cool!

The late 17th century French matchlock musket 1660-1700 in Ne

Belleville: The post is originally from 2007. The original sites are gone. I think I can help though with pictures of the lock that was built from the plans. I hope this helps!

The late 17th century French matchlock musket 1660-1700 in Ne

Flint62Smoothie: Wow, that is such an old post that I was still using Geocities! Here is a video from a few years back showing Wilma in action in Matchlock mode.

    TRS Dutch Wheelock.

Granth: He has a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/bolek.maciaszczyk Bolek is a good guy and really knows his stuff with Wheellocks. Good luck!

    TRS Dutch Wheelock.

Granth: Unfortunately I had severe problems with my TRS Dutch Wheellock to the point it was unshootable until Bolek Maciaszczyk remade the lock and now she fires great! From what Bolek told me about the basic design is that the geometry is off and some of the parts weren't hardened...

    Tiller length..?

Homesteader: Not me, I usually shoot mine over the shoulder style.

    Italian museum photo

Andrewmtnman: I can't say with all of them, but at least a few look like Snap-Matchlocks with a cheek style buttstock. Beautiful arms! Thanks for sharing! :D

    Tiller length..?

Homesteader: I wish I knew for certain as well. I'd hazard a guess that the first Handgonnes were also used as makeshift clubs in an emergency. Especially since gunpowder weapons were new back then and they really didn't know how to properly design one until some experimentation over the...

    Shot the Wheellock today.

Lexington1: She is a beauty! Bolek really is a master on getting Wheelies back up and running. He did the same for me last year and did an incredible job! He really knows his stuff.
  19. Teleoceras

    Tiller length..?

Homesteader: Congrats on your first Handgonne! :D Four feet is about right. I usually can bareball it if the fit is tight. Some tow in front wouldn't hurt if you aren't sure. I use my left hand for absorbing recoil. If I'm using a safety fuse, I will have enough time to bring in my right...

    Wheelocks from the rifle shoppe?

Snooterpup: Bolek actually rebuilt a TRS Dutch Wheellock mechanism I had because it wasn't designed properly. Now she works great and Bolek didn't recommend the TRS locks because of their poor geometry. From personal experience, I'd have to agree.
